We are seeking an organised, enthusiastic and reliable individual to take on the role of Wardrobe and Chaperone Coordinator. This is a key backstage position responsible for costume management during dress rehearsals and ensuring the welfare, safety and discipline of our young cast during show week.
Your time will be split between working on location in theatres and working in the main offices of RARE Productions - the UK's largest youth musical theatre company. As a Wardrobe and Chaperone Coordinator you will be running wardrobe on dress rehearsals and chaperoning backstage during shows on youth theatre productions such as Annie, The Addams Family and Matilda to name a few. You will be working as part of a team at RARE's head office to aid the smooth running of RARE's show weeks. You will be required to display a flexible attitude to your work and will be required to undertake varying roles as dictated by the requirements of Head of Wardrobe.
There will also be work in the office and on location for our professional Christmas pantomimes in Milton Keynes and Bedford.
The job will require pre-scheduled evening/weekend hours and driving. Would suit a recent graduate or candidate looking for a gateway to work within the theatre industry.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Approximately 33 weeks of the year working in theatres running wardrobe on dress rehearsals and chaperoning shows for our youth theatre productions
Remaining working weeks to assist wardrobe team from head office, ensuring all costumes are well-maintained, cleaned, and organised
Supervising and coordinating a team of licensed chaperones and parent volunteers both in person at theatres and over the phone from head office
Ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of all cast members throughout dress rehearsals and show days
Attending rehearsals where admin support is needed
Supporting the wardrobe department over Christmas on at least one of our professional pantomimes
Any other general wardrobe organisation and administration jobs
Qualifications:
Education: No formal qualifications are required.
Essential Attributes:
Experience working with children and young people
A valid chaperone licence (or willingness to obtain one)
Strong organisational and communication skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
A positive, friendly and professional attitude
To have held a UK driving license for at least 2 years and be happy to drive our transit van
Desirable Attributes:
An interest in the world of theatre and a good awareness of the industry and its workings?
The ability to work on your own initiative and to solve problems
Basic costume handling/sewing skills preferred
