Molly Limpet's Ltd (Sheffield) requires a Wardrobe Assistant to support its continued growth by working with our stock of over 50,000 bespoke theatrical costumes, preparing ready-to-wear wardrobes for musical theatre, Pantomime, television and film clients for projects across the UK.
As a busy commercial costume house, Molly Limpet's is keen to continue its current growth trajectory as one of the UK's largest suppliers of theatrical costumes (with an emphasis on Pantomime), and recruit key members to our Team, with an immediate start required.
Our expectations for the role are very high, but as an extremely close-working team there is support on-hand to help familiarise the candidate with such an extensive collection of costumes. This is an exciting role, which will require the candidate to be knowledgeable of and prepare costumes from all genres and time periods.
The role is a full-time, permanent position, and the successful candidate would be required to work office hours: Mon-Fri, 9-5.
The role will be based in our fully equipped Sheffield-based Studio, just off the very sociable and busy Abbeydale Road, with great public transport links and affording free parking (though a car is not required for this role).
Previous applicants have chosen to relocate to Sheffield - great cost of living, access to all major transport links (train/M1), and the ability to have a secure job in what can be a volatile industry. We have confirmed bookings into late 2026, and are looking for someone to bring their own ideas and expertise to help continue our growth.
The successful candidate will work within our skilled Wardrobe Team, as well as our in-house Designer, who is an exceptional and unrivalled talent, with years of experience in his field. As such, the role will provide the successful candidate with a unique and unparalleled learning opportunity from which to develop into an industry-leading individual themselves.
The Wardrobe Assistant's role will require them to prepare wardrobes from our extensive stock of theatrical costumes from a client's measurements and brief. There is also a lot of scope for the successful candidate to display their own creative input, which will be strongly encouraged. A good amount of the work is autonomous, within a Team environment. They will be required to meet with clients to discuss the plans for their show, and be a key contact throughout their project.
This is not a sewing/making position, but the ability to alter garments is a bonus, (though we have an in-house Workroom who can undertake these tasks).
They will be expected to analyse requirements, and communicate any challenges to the client, in advance of a fixed delivery date. They will spot any inconsistencies in measurements and query these with the client before doing the physical work.
Key Skills required and/or an ability to demonstrate them:
They will be able to distinguish between different periods/genre of costume with ease;
They will have reasonable knowledge of garment construction with experience of working with costumes produced in a variety of fabrics;
They will be able to show examples of working to strict deadlines and how to communicate progress;
They will be able to measure garments with extreme accuracy, and at speed;
Basic sewing skills are preferred, with the ability to do minor alterations both by hand and on a machine (though this is not a sewing/manufacturing role);
Other complimentary skills or areas of expertise will also be of interest.
No specific qualifications are required if the key skills we are looking for can be demonstrated.
A minimum of five years' experience in a professional theatre / costume environment is preferred, but we shall treat each application individually. The applicant must have direct experience of fitting and dressing a range of costume projects in the theatre/TV/film industry/-ies. Alternatively, if you have extensive retail clothing experience, we would also encourage you to apply.
