Warehouse Night Shift Supervisor
to join our dedicated warehouse team at our
Chester - Matrix Court site
. This is a key operational role responsible for overseeing night shift activities, maintaining high standards of safety, performance, and compliance, and ensuring customer stock is handled accurately and efficiently.
Role Overview
As a Warehouse Supervisor - Nights, you will plan, organise, supervise, and actively participate in daily warehouse operations. You will be responsible for leading warehouse operatives, allocating workloads, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with health and safety, BRC, and ISO standards. This role requires a hands-on supervisor who can operate MHE, support night loading operations, and provide clear handovers to the day shift.
Key Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
Planning, organising, supervising, and participating in daily warehouse operations, including receipt, documentation, storage, safety, and distribution of customer stock.
Training, supervising, and evaluating the performance of warehouse operatives, ensuring all inductions and health & safety requirements are adhered to.
Assigning workloads and monitoring performance to ensure operational targets, KPIs, and service levels are achieved.
Preparing and maintaining records, logs, and reports as required, including aisle checks and documentation in line with ISO requirements.
Monitoring the Warehouse Management System (WMS), operating PC systems to enter data, identify errors, and control key system screens as required.
Providing cover for night loading and system operations when required and ensuring a clear, accurate handover to the day shift.
Operating and demonstrating the safe use of MHE, including Counterbalance, PPT, and VNA trucks, ensuring all equipment is maintained in safe working order and reporting defects immediately.
Observing health, safety, and security standards and maintaining the warehouse in a clean, safe, and orderly condition in line with BRC Storage and Distribution standards.
Assisting management in establishing, maintaining, and improving warehouse standards, procedures, and best practices.
Essential Criteria
Valid Counterbalance, PPT and VNA Certificates.
Previous warehouse supervisory or team leader experience.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and support a team.
Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
Strong understanding of warehouse operations, procedures, and terminology.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and PC-based systems.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working within an FMCG food and drink environment.
Knowledge of food safety, security, and BRC Storage & Distribution standards.
Experience supporting audits or inspections (e.g. BRC, ISO, internal audits).
Knowledge of space utilisation and warehouse planning.
Experience training staff and providing work direction.
Experience managing or supervising teams on a night shift or unsociable hours.
Confidence using Excel or similar software for basic reporting and data tracking.
