Job Description

You will support the Warehouse Manager to ensure that warehouse operations run safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard. This is a hands-on team lead/supervisory role is responsible for leading a small team, maintaining daily workflow, and carrying out practical warehouse tasks.

A significant part of this role includes managing our outside storage facility, acting as the main customer contact, updating customer stock spreadsheets, creating pick sheets, coordinating stock movements, and completing regular stock takes. This involves communicating directly and professionally with customers.

Operational duties include unloading containers, FLT loading/unloading of vehicles, picking and packing orders, ensuring all deadlines are met. You will also assist the Warehouse Manager with reviewing, updating, and writing new SOPs and risk assessments. This role also requires flexibility in working hours during peak periods (particularly September-November) to meet increased operational demands.

Key Responsibilities



Leadership & Team Supervision



Supervise daily operations and guide a small warehouse and picking team. Lead by example with a motivating, positive, proactive, hands-on approach. Allocate daily tasks, manage priorities, and monitor progress throughout each shift. Provide coaching, guidance, and support to team members. Assist with training new starters and refresher training. Identify requirements for temporary labour during peak times and escalate to management. Deputise for the Warehouse Manager when required. Drive continuous improvement through safer and smarter working methods.

Operational Delivery



Collaborate with the Despatch & Sales Admin team to manage orders and align warehouse activity with customer delivery schedules. Oversee and participate in picking, packing, goods-in, goods-out, and stock movement. Perform safe container unloading which will include some handballing of boxes. Ensure all containers are unloaded within required timeframes, coordinating resources and maintaining safe manual-handling practices. Support the FLT loading and unloading of vehicles, following all safety standards. Produce accurate pick sheets and despatch documentation. Ensure all orders are prepared, checked, and dispatched on time. Conduct regular stock checks and support stock discrepancy investigations. Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards throughout the warehouse. Support damaged goods processes, quality checks, and operational problem-solving. Demonstrate flexibility in hours of work during busy periods, particularly peak season, to ensure operational demands are met. Communicate effectively with the supply team to ensure smooth despatch & stock handling. Share responsibility for opening and securing the premises. Ensure alarms, shutters, gates, and equipment are secure and shut down safely.

Outside Storage Facility Management



Act as the main point of contact for outside-storage customers. Update customer stock spreadsheets and internal systems accurately. Create pick sheets and coordinate all stock movements for storage customers. Conduct regular stock takes and ensure all data reconciles. Communicate professionally with customers regarding updates and enquiries. Ensure the outside storage area is tidy, secure, and well presented. Support new customers onboarding and handling enquiries.

Health, Safety & Compliance



Ensure all tasks are carried out safely and according to relevant procedures. Conduct routine safety checks and report hazards immediately. Comply with all company SOPs, policies, and relevant regulatory standards. Support the ongoing review and upkeep of SOPs and risk assessments to remain compliant. Encourage a strong safety culture within the team.

Systems, Reporting & Administration



Develop strong working knowledge of our WMS and confidently use day-to-day. Maintain accurate records in warehouse systems and customer spreadsheets. Prepare operational reports, stock summaries, and activity logs. Produce returns reports including reasons, volumes, condition checks, and trend analysis. Support documentation for audits, month end, and compliance checks. Ensure all paperwork relating to container unloading, despatch, and stock movement is completed correctly.

Experience & Requirements



5+ years of warehouse or logistics environment experience is essential with at least 2+ years' experience of supervising a team. Experience of Microsoft Excel and in-house stock systems/warehouse systems is required. Comfortable performing hands-on operational tasks. FLT license preferred, or willingness to undergo training. A confident communicator with an honest, positive, and friendly approach. Receptive to feedback and comfortable expressing opinions and providing information/key points clearly and respectfully. Highly organised and able to prioritise effectively under pressure. Practical, reliable, and able to take ownership of tasks and responsibilities. Positive leadership style with the ability to motivate and support a small team. The ability to build/maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and customers. Strong problem-solving skills and proactive mindset. High attention to safety, accuracy, and maintaining a tidy workspace. Leads by example with professionalism and high personal standards. Calm, approachable, and consistent under pressure. Enthusiastic about learning, developing, and contributing to continuous improvement.
