This is a fantastic opportunity within the team to support and lead the crews, making a positive impact on the delivery of our waste and recycling services within a well established in-house service.

Duties of the role include:

  • To supervise the staffing of all services placed under the control of the post-holder, liaising with other Waste Operations Supervisors and the Waste Operations Lead as required.
  • To ensure that all scheduled work is achieved in accordance with the prescribed schedules and specifications as supplied by the Waste Operations Lead.
  • To ensure that all works carried out are in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other locally agreed Codes of Practice and Safe Systems of Working.
  • To ensure a prompt response to any enquiry or complaint received from residents and customers and/or when advised by the corporate customer service centre and to then advise the Waste Operations Lead of actions taken.
  • To ensure the completion of all paperwork in accordance with current quality systems of reporting. To include time sheets and any records as required by the Waste Operations Lead, Payroll and Human Resources services.
  • To utilise the IT systems to optimise crew operations and communication.
  • To ensure a full knowledge of appropriate legislation applying to the duties and responsibilities of the post-holder is maintained and updated by attendance at relevant courses of instruction.
  • To monitor expenditure placed under the jurisdiction of the post-holder and to advise the Waste Operations Lead of areas of projected over and under expenditure.
  • To liaise with the Waste Operations Lead and the Fleet Operations Team Leader in respect of provision of transport and associated plant as service requirements demand.
  • To initiate the disciplinary and grievance procedures at a level commensurate with the post.
  • To supervise the work of agency staff or contractors in respect of all recycling collection services and to ensure that standards of cleanliness specified by the Council are adhered to.
  • To provide holiday and sickness cover for colleagues as required and in accordance with agreed shift patterns of working.
  • To carry regular and planned crew monitoring to ensure that required standards of working and adherence to Health and Safety are being fully met. To take corrective actions as necessary.
  • To undertake training of staff in areas of induction, manual handling, ISO procedures and safe systems of working.
