We are seeking a qualified and experienced
Authorising Engineer (Water)
to join our expert team. This role is ideal for a senior consultant with in-depth experience in water safety, particularly within regulated and clinical environments. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, delivering audits, risk assessments, crisis management support, and strategic guidance to help manage and reduce the risk of waterborne infections.
Key Responsibilities
Fulfil duties as Authorising Engineer (Water) and senior subject matter expert across client accounts.
Lead on compliance and governance audits for water systems, focusing on safety, regulation, and operational performance.
Conduct specialist risk assessments for Legionella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and other waterborne pathogens. Support clients during outbreak investigations and serious incident (SUI) responses.
Provide expert witness services and litigation support as required.
Design and deliver accredited and bespoke training (e.g. City & Guilds, ILM).
Develop water safety documentation including policies, Water Safety Plans, procedural manuals, and risk registers.
Create and manage pre-planned maintenance (PPM) schedules and electronic monitoring systems.
Offer independent advice on water treatment regimes, installations, and system design.
Oversee design verification, installation compliance checks, and handover for new builds and refurbishments.
Produce tender specifications and lead tender execution or project management as required.
Interpret microbiological data and deliver actionable insight through clear reporting.
Lead and manage complex, bespoke water safety projects from inception to completion.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
Demonstrable experience as a Senior Consultant or Authorising Engineer (Water), preferably within healthcare or regulated environments.
Strong technical expertise in water safety, infection control, and risk management.
Excellent knowledge of current regulations, including HTM 04-01, ACOP L8, and relevant BS/ISO standards.
Confident communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Competent with Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools.
Full UK driving licence and ability to pass enhanced DBS checks.
Desirable
Degree in a relevant scientific, public health, or engineering discipline.
Accredited training delivery experience (e.g. ILM or C&G courses).
Experience supporting clients in the UK and overseas, including knowledge of international compliance frameworks.
