Job Introduction

We are recruiting for a temporary Wayleave Manager, with the primary responsibility of managing the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of services to the ED business, the location can be flexible within one of our NGED's geographical locations in the East Midlands. This is a temporary position for 12 months (subject to review).


The role is focussed on the delivery of the ED2 work programme and assist in the ED3 delivery model.


You will be reporting to the Consents Manager and work alongside other NGED departments including Network design, Major Projects as well as colleagues in ED Property, this will be supporting the ambitious programme of projects across a wide range of scale.


Key business requirements are the timely, cost-effective and efficient delivery of land rights and statutory consents and you will be responsible for ensuring key project milestones are met to ensure, land rights and consents do not present barriers to the programmes.


As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office, home and some site-based working with the ability to travel within NGED licence areas.


Main Responsibilities
Make expectations clear and set standards. Organise, delegate and manage work within the team to include monitoring sickness absence/Standards of Performance and sickness absence procedures. Assist with 132kV, 66kV and 33kV scheme preparation in terms of site and route selection/ acquisition. Manage and negotiate complex consents, wayleaves, access routes, easements and agreements in respect of the location of and works to distribution assets (cables/lines/substations). Provide a wayleave service to Field Operations and ensure delivery of schemes within ED2. Responsible for the management of and work associated with wayleave terminations applicable to the 132kV system and assist local offices with 66kV and 33kV. Responsible for managing and negotiating complex Injurious Affection claims (including large development site claims). Settling damage, compensation and other payment claims. Approving, processing and completion of easement and property matters with legal advisors. Assist with or co-ordinate or resolve consent and wayleaves legal matters (including inquiries / hearings). Undertake statutory and courtesy consultation on development proposals. Undertake and co-ordinate all major project planning applications and be the first point of contact with local authorities, DESNZ, MIPU and other consultees/objectors. Assist with the preparation of wayleave/consents policy, as required also preparation and control of the wayleave budget. Share knowledge, coach and help in developing colleagues in the team Monitor the effect of development proposals on the environment. Provide advice and assistance as required to the Wayleave/Estate Specialists in Field Operations. Coordinate and delegate workload within the team to ensure that projects are delivered on time. Identify opportunities for improvement in performance and implement or recommend change. Provide assistance to team members when requested. Identify own development needs and request development opportunities. Represent the Company on specialist groups, as required. Be involved with the selection of new team members. Identify the development needs of the team and team members.

The Ideal Candidate

You should be self-motivated and delivery focused, have excellent organisational skill and be able to react decisively under pressure, whilst ensuring you maintain consistently high standards. The ability to communicate and influence effectively with a diverse range of people and teams, both internally and externally, is a key requirement to be successful in this role.


You will have experience of undertaking similar activities or developing/managing larger projects is essential as is a broad understanding of the NGED business.


You will be ideally qualified with APM qualifications or experience in an appropriate discipline.


IOSH or safety related qualifications will be required or once in post to be completed within 12 months.


A degree in land management or equivalent will be advantageous.


You will need to travel across various sites throughout the East Midlands.


Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
