Job Description

Job Purpose:

To provide nutritious, well-prepared meals for residents in accordance with their dietary requirements and preferences. To support the kitchen in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety are upheld at all times.

Key Responsibilities:Cooking Duties:

Prepare and cook meals and snacks in accordance with the planned menu and residents' dietary needs. Ensure all meals are prepared to a high standard of taste and presentation. Adapt menus to cater for individual dietary requirements (e.g. diabetic, low salt, vegetarian, pureed). Manage portion control to reduce food waste and maintain cost effectiveness.

Kitchen Assistant Duties:

Assist with general kitchen duties including food preparation, washing up, and cleaning. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, appliances, and food preparation areas. Help with receiving and storing food deliveries, checking for quality and compliance with food safety standards. Assist in stock rotation and reporting low stock levels.

Health & Safety / Compliance:

Follow all food hygiene and health & safety regulations as outlined by the Food Standards Agency and Care Quality Commission (CQC). Maintain accurate kitchen records including food temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and stock logs. Report any concerns regarding food safety, equipment, or kitchen hygiene to the manager.

Personal Attributes & Requirements:

Previous experience in a similar catering or care setting preferred. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) required; Level 3 desirable. Understanding of dietary needs for the elderly, including special diets. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently. Good communication and teamwork skills. Compassionate and respectful attitude towards residents and staff.

Pay: 12.21-12.50 per hour
