We are looking to recruit a skilled Welder to join our steel foundry team. The primary responsibility of this role is to weld and fill cavities, defects, and imperfections in steel castings before they move on to machining or finishing processes. You will play a critical part in ensuring the structural integrity and quality of our cast products.
Key Responsibilities
Perform cavity filling and repair welding on steel castings of various sizes and complexities.
Use MIG, Stick, and/or TIG welding equipment (depending on casting requirements).
Grind, dress, and prepare surfaces prior to welding.
Inspect castings for defects, porosity, or shrink cavities and determine appropriate repair methods.
Follow foundry repair procedures and welding specifications.
Operate handheld and bench grinders to finish welds.
Ensure all repairs meet internal quality standards and customer requirements.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to health & safety procedures.
Collaborate with quality control and production teams to resolve defects efficiently.
Skills & Experience Required
Some welding experience (ideally in a foundry or heavy manufacturing environment).
Strong ability in MIG and/or Stick welding (TIG experience an advantage).
Experience welding carbon steel and alloy steels.
Ability to read and work from defect maps, repair instructions, or basic engineering drawings.
Good understanding of welding preparation, heat control, and distortion management.
Attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
Physically capable of handling heavy cast components and working in a foundry environment.
Desirable Qualifications
Welding certification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, coded welding) - desirable but not essential if experience is strong.
Cast steel repair work.
FLT or overhead crane experience.
