Job Title: Welfare Cleaner (Construction Site)

Job Purpose



The Welfare Cleaner is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all site welfare facilities, ensuring a safe, tidy, and pleasant working environment for all personnel on site. This includes cleaning and replenishing welfare areas such as canteens, toilets, drying rooms, and site offices in line with company and health & safety standards.

Key Responsibilities



Clean and sanitize all welfare facilities including: Toilets, washrooms, and showers Canteens and kitchen areas Offices, meeting rooms, and rest areas Drying rooms and locker areas Replenish consumables (soap, toilet rolls, paper towels, etc.) as required. Empty waste bins and ensure correct segregation and disposal of waste. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wipe down surfaces to maintain cleanliness. Report any maintenance issues, damage, or supply shortages to the Site Manager. Follow site health and safety rules and use cleaning chemicals and PPE correctly. Assist in maintaining site COVID-19 or other hygiene protocols when required. Maintain cleaning records and complete any required checklists or logs.

Skills and Experience



Essential:



Previous cleaning experience (preferably on a construction or industrial site). Understanding of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures (COSHH awareness). Good attention to detail and ability to work independently. Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated. Good communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable:



Valid CSCS card (if required by site). Experience working within a construction or similar environment. Basic Health & Safety awareness training.

Physical Requirements



Ability to perform manual cleaning tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Comfortable working in varying site conditions (outdoor and indoor welfare units).

Additional Information



All PPE and cleaning equipment will be provided. The welfare cleaner is a key member of the site team, helping maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Purpose of the Role



The Welfare Operative is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic working environment across all site welfare and office facilities, ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, site standards, and the Contractor's Logistics and Environmental policies.

The role is vital in maintaining workforce wellbeing and supporting site productivity by ensuring welfare and office areas are kept to a consistently high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

Key Responsibilities



Site & Welfare Accommodation Areas



Sweep, mop, and clean all welfare areas, including canteens, changing rooms, drying rooms, and corridors. Clean and sanitise toilet and shower facilities to maintain high hygiene standards. Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of welfare consumables (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet rolls, cleaning materials). Ensure waste is disposed of in accordance with site waste management procedures. Work in compliance with

COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Assessments

, ensuring safe use, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals.

Project Offices



Clean and tidy office areas daily, including desks, worktops, meeting rooms, and communal spaces. Collect cups, dishes, and cutlery. Vacuum office floors and spot clean surfaces as required. Maintain office hygiene standards in accordance with site policies and environmental requirements.

General Duties



Manage stock of cleaning consumables and submit supply requests through the site Administrator or Logistics Supervisor. Report any maintenance issues, damaged facilities, or unsafe conditions immediately. Work in accordance with site

Health, Safety, Environmental, and Fire Safety procedures

. Participate in daily activity briefings (DABs) and toolbox talks as required. Uphold company values of safety, respect, and professionalism at all times.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance



The Welfare Operative must:

Work safely and with consideration for others at all times. Comply with current regulations. Follow all site-specific risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and COSHH controls. Use appropriate

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

as instructed and issued. Report all accidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions immediately to the Logistics Supervisor. Support environmental objectives by reducing waste, conserving materials, and using eco-friendly cleaning products where possible.

Qualities and Competencies



Essential:



Ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Reliable, punctual, and professional in attitude and presentation. Self-motivated with attention to detail. Positive approach to workplace hygiene and safety.

Desirable:



Previous experience in welfare or industrial cleaning on construction or similar sites.

Qualifications and Training



Essential (to be completed within first 2-3 weeks of start date):



Manual Handling Training

COSHH Awareness Training

(completed prior to or immediately on commencement)

Green CSCS Card (Labourer)

or equivalent recognised site safety qualification

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)



Welfare and office facilities consistently clean, tidy, and fully stocked. Full compliance with COSHH and site safety procedures. Zero complaints or non-conformances relating to welfare standards. Positive contribution to site safety culture and team cooperation.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 12.60 per hour

Expected hours: 47.5 per week

Work Location: In person
