Job description
Student Services and Employability puts student success at the heart of everything that we do, from supporting students in their studies to preparing them for the future. The team covers: Wellbeing & Disability, Learning Support, Student Advice, Careers, Placements, Employer Engagement, and GO Wales, supported by the Operations Team. Working in a motivated, friendly and trusting environment we strive to deliver high quality student centric services. We help students at Cardiff Metropolitan University feel supported to succeed and prepared for their next steps.
To provide professional and proactive wellbeing support services to ensure all our students can succeed in their studies also ensuring the university adheres to equalities legislation.
To support student retention and progression via the implementation of a range of support measures also providing advice to students regarding academic processes and procedures.
Principal roles and responsibilities

  • To maintain and manage a caseload of students who disclose a disability, including those with complex mental health conditions ensuring appropriate professional standards are maintained, cases are escalated in a timely and appropriate manner, and risk is managed in accordance with University policies.
  • Provide professional assessment, triage and referral services to promote students\xe2\x80\x99 physical and mental health.
  • To identify, risk assess and refer students with complex mental health needs, including those in crisis and at risk to appropriate statutory or specialist mental health services.
  • To create Individual Support Plans for disabled students ensuring reasonable adjustments are communicated to relevant staff.

What we are looking for
  • Degree educated in mental health, social work or allied health professional or possessing equivalent professional experience.
  • An excellent understanding of risk assessment, risk management and safeguarding in a professional setting.
  • Excellent communication skills to include the ability to work 1:1 with a diverse student population, to deliver training/presentations, and to lead meetings and case conferences.
  • Experience in delivering strength based interventions to effectively support students experiencing a wide range of common mental health and wellbeing issues.
