Background
Were recruiting two passionate Wellbeing Mentors for an exciting new pilot: Promoting Positive Adolescent Mental Health for School Climate (PPAMH!). This innovative programme, delivered in partnership with the Bradford Institute for Health Research (BIHR), takes a whole-school approach to improving wellbeing and school climate in secondary schools across Bradford.
The intervention combines whole-school activities, peer-group workshops, and one-to-one support, covering topics such as mental health, study skills, rights and responsibilities, and positive relationships. It is grounded in participatory principles, empowering students, staff, and families to shape the school environment collaboratively.
Subject to funding and pilot success, there may be opportunities to scale and extend the programme.
Role Purpose
Wellbeing Mentors will deliver the PPAMH! intervention in designated secondary schools, acting as non-clinical practitioners to create supportive, mentally healthy environments. You will:
Facilitate wellbeing activities, peer groups, one-to-one support, and awareness initiatives for students and staff.
Work closely with school leadership, staff, students, and the PPAMH! research team to promote emotional wellbeing and early intervention.
Lead engaging activities following a comprehensive 7-day training programmesuch as assemblies, workshops, and targeted support for Year 9 pupils.
Help shape school health and wellbeing policies, ensuring youth voice is central to decision-making.
Collaborate with BIHR researchers to share insights and co-produce activities that evolve in response to feedback and findings.

Role Outcomes
As a Wellbeing Mentor, you will:Improve students understanding of mental health and wellbeing through whole-school activities such as assemblies and awareness campaigns.
Build confidence, resilience, and help-seeking among young people by facilitating peer workshops and one-to-one support for Year 9 students.
Create a more open and supportive school culture around mental health, working with staff and leadership to embed inclusive policies and practices.
Empower students to lead and promote wellbeing by supporting peer-led initiatives and encouraging youth voice in decision-making.
Support early identification and referral for students needing additional help, ensuring timely signposting to appropriate services.
Strengthen relationships across the school community, collaborating with staff, students, and stakeholders to ensure successful programme delivery.
Contribute to programme learning and improvement by collecting data, maintaining records, and sharing insights with the research team through reports and co-produced activities.
Ensure safeguarding and compliance, promptly reporting and managing any concerns in line with BDC Mind policies.
Embed BDC Minds aims, objectives, and core values in all aspects of the role, ensuring these are applied in a trauma-informed way.
Champion the Service Member Partnership Agreement, making sure it is communicated in accessible formats and understood by staff, volunteers, and people who use our services.
Ensure colleagues understand and comply with BDC Mind policies and procedures.
Take shared responsibility for Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Information Governance, and Equality & Diversity.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by senior management, with flexibility to adapt tasks to individual strengths and needs.

Qualifications
Essential:Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in youth work, education, health, social care, or community development or relevant experience
Awareness of safeguarding principles and their application in schools and youth work
Desirable:
Qualification in counselling skills, youth work, mental health, psychology, or education
Experience
Essential:Experience of working with young people in schools, youth work or community settings
Experience supporting individuals with personal, social, or emotional issues.
Understanding of delivering group sessions, workshops, or wellbeing activities and individual support strategies.
Previous experience in promoting mental health and wellbeing
Desirable:
Experience working in school-based or mental health programmes.
Experience supporting young people with additional needs or from diverse backgrounds.
Experience of partnership working with schools, health or voluntary sector organisations.

Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion in school and community contexts.
Desirable:
Knowledge of local health and wellbeing services and referral pathways.
Understanding of behaviour change, resilience, or youth empowerment approaches.
