About The Role

Key functions



To prepare, fabricate and erect structural steelwork.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

To ascertain job requirements from drawings or other specifications. To mark out and develop profiles on plate, structural steelwork and pipework. To produce templates for marking and/or drilling. To produce angled fabrications using bending or folding machinery. To form rolled steel sections using section rolling machinery. To set out plate work for structural steelwork fabrication. To produce and install structural steelwork fabrications. To produce and install plate work assemblies of square, rectangular, cylindrical or conical form. To produce and install heavy steelwork beams or sections. To produce and install structural lattice girders. To use manual metal arc welding to weld fabrications or structural steelwork. To use straight line and profile cutting machines. To adhere to all safety requirements including safety checks of tools and equipment. To use Oxy/fuel hand burning/heating/cutting equipment. To use all relevant workshops/site equipment associated with job requirements including all relevant training/certification requirements Work in accordance with safe systems of work including permits, risk assessments and POWRA. Achievement of tasks and targets set by chargehand and/or supervisor. Produce good quality work to contract / specification requirement Adherence to Health and Safety policy procedures




Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

Full Apprenticeship in relevant or related trade and/or a Vocational Qualification at L3 (NVQ/QCF/RQF) from a recognised Awarding Body (ECITB/EAL) OR Ace Card or equivalent in Fabricating Steel Structures or Fabrication & Welding Valid Site Safety Passport (CCNSG or Equivalent)

Preferred

IOSH Managing Safely

Knowledge & Skill

A minimum of 2 years' experience in plating disciplines i.e. fabrication of plate and steelwork Sound understanding of Human Performance

Experience

Completion of a recognised apprenticeship within a related engineering or engineering construction environment Experience working within the Engineering Construction Industry on large capital plant such as thermal and nuclear power stations, oil refineries, petrochemical installations, industrial process installations and oil rigs etc. Or experience within a related environment such as shipbuilding. Experience of working on TAR's, outages, projects or new build projects within an engineering construction site environment including experience in one or more of the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Thermal or Nuclear sectors
