Job Purpose:
To provide a consistently outstanding level of care to the animals until they are successfully rehomed or released. You will work to meet the aims and objectives of your sections Action Plans with your team and manager as effectively and efficiently as possible whilst ensuring you contribute to cooperative, positive, aspirational culture that every contributor to the rescue effort.
Key Activities: People
Understand the work of Freshfields as a whole and cooperate and support other members of the wider team.
Understand the Action Plan for your sections and work to achieve its objectives.
Uphold Freshfields all Policies and Employee Handbook. This should include our meat-free workplace Policy, Health and Safety and Equality Policies.
Follow set operational procedures at all times and identify and suggest areas for improvements to daily tasks.
Support and update active volunteers.
Key Activities: Animal Care
Understand and meet care quality standards in all aspects of your work.
Co-operation under direction from the Unit Manager, with the consulting veterinary surgeon in respect of the examination and treatment of wild and small animals including ensuring that treatments and medications are administered in the prescribed quantity at the specified intervals.
-Non veterinary health assessment, in collaboration with other staff, of wild and small animals entering and leaving the rescue, ensuring completion of all associated reports.
-On-going assessment, in conjunction with other staff, of wild and small animals within the facility with respect to their health, welfare, general condition and suitability for rehoming. Drawing attention to managers to animals not considered to be fully healthy or considered to require veterinary attention.
Complete records of animals entering, staying and leaving the rescue.
Provide an excellent standard of daily care, watering, feeding, cleaning, handling, transportation and infection control of wild and small animals.
Provide ideas for public education that could help the animals before or after rescue.
Key Activities: Communication
Be a positive advocate for your unit, and the whole rescue, in person, online, in work and outside work at all times.
Understand the rescues ethics, charitable purpose and be able to explain this accurately with case examples to anybody with ease.
-Liaising with public visiting the facility. Acting as a point of contact for public enquiries about animals within the facility.
Produce content to demonstrate the quality, impact and value of your work every week for online and other purposes.
Monitor and respond to public comments on your units posts.
Contribute to providing public information and advice on issues relevant to your animals, in person and a variety of mediums.
Fully complete receipts for donations with contact permissions, and promote information and fundraising campaigns, and events as requested.
Fully comply with secure keeping of data and records in line with GDPR law.
Attend team meetings and training sessions as required.
Key Activities: Facilities and Equipment
-Regular inspection of all equipment within the facility, with early reporting of any defects or deficiencies found, also assisting with stock control of equipment, feeding and cleaning supplies. Ensure the facility and surroundings are maintained in a tidy and presentable standard and secure at all times.
Take personal responsibility for health and safety in accordance with Freshfields Health and Safety Policy, understand and reduce risks in daily tasks.

Person Specification:
Professional/Technical Qualifications
Animal Care level 3 or comparable knowledge - desirable
GCSE C or above English and Maths
IT skills - Microsoft Word

-Education qualifications: Good general standard of education.
Experience:
Hands on experience of working with small animals and/or wildlife is beneficial - in a paid or voluntary position.
Job Context:
Work is assigned by the Unit Manager.
Work is carried out within general guidelines of the charity. Specific targets are set by the Unit Manager.
Work is assessed through regular one to one meetings, team meetings and quarterly supervisions with the Unit Manager.
The post holder should have the ability to make decisions on the routine matching of small animals to potential adopters as per rescue rehoming guidelines, acceptance and allocation to centre and small animal nutritional requirements.

The post holder is part of front-line staff providing care for small animals and wild animals, maintaining good customer relations and projecting a professional image for the charity.
