Action For Humanity (AFH) and its partners seek an external consultant to coordinate and conduct research on the enablers and barriers affecting women's leadership rights and participation in Syria. The consultant's expertise will ensure high-quality data collection and analysis to inform policy and advocacy at national and international levels. Action for Humanity (AFH) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief. Established in 2011 by a group of doctors, AFH has grown into a leading humanitarian actor operating in over 14 countries to provide life-saving assistance, healthcare, education and long-term support to communities affected by conflict, natural disasters and displacement. Alongside its operational work, AFH conducts research and policy analysis to amplify the voices of marginalised groups and influence humanitarian and development agendas. Through this dual focus on direct action and evidence-based advocacy, AFH strives to create lasting impact and systemic change.

Scope of work



The consultant will, based on a final agreed methodology, oversee and coordinate with internal data collectors and carry out analysis. A mixed methods approach is preferred seen below: -

Conducting primary research through interviews with women leaders, activists, civil society members, local officials, NGO workers and international stakeholders Conducting primary research through focus group discussions with diverse groups (urban, rural, displaced, youth, and marginalised women) as well as compiling some case studies that capture how women's leadership roles have evolved over time Conducting secondary research through desk review of policy documents, program reports, funding allocations and AFH's previous Recognising Resiliencereport

Key Deliverables



Inception report: methodology, tools (KII and FGD guides) and workplan (including sampling strategy, data quality assurance mechanisms and ethics annex detailing handling of materials and referral pathways in case of a consent related or safeguarding issue) Progress update: Summary of data and raw data shared Final report: Analysis with case studies

What we are looking for in our Research Consultant:



Qualifications and experience



Advanced degree in gender studies, social sciences, international development or a related field 5 years of experience in research and analysis, preferably in conflict/post-conflict contexts Proven experience in producing research in the area of women's rights, participation and gender dynamics Professional fluency in Arabic (for conducting interviews and training data collectors) and English (for analysis and reporting) Familiarity with the Syrian context and sensitivity to cultural and political dynamics Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills Demonstrated expertise on gender equality, women's rights, and leadership in fragile settings

Languages



Fluent in English, verbal and written.
