We're looking for a reliable and experienced Working Cleaning Supervisor to join our Cleaning & Hygiene team in Sheffield. This is a key position combining hands-on cleaning responsibilities with team leadership, stock control, and day-to-day site coordination. The successful candidate will need to be physically fit, flexible, and confident managing staff across a busy, high-footfall site. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take on more responsibility while staying involved in the practical side of cleaning.
About the Role
As a Working Supervisor, you'll be responsible for maintaining cleaning standards while leading a small team of operatives on-site. Your shift will run from 6:00am to 12:00pm, Monday to Friday, and you'll be expected to take a proactive approach to both delivery and team supervision. This is a physically demanding role that involves a lot of walking and movement throughout the site, so physical fitness and stamina are essential.
You'll be the first point of contact for any on-site cleaning matters, ensuring that all work is completed to specification and that staff remain professional, punctual, and presentable. In addition to your own cleaning duties, you'll delegate daily tasks, monitor team performance, and step in to cover where required, ensuring service is never compromised. You'll also take ownership of stock management, ordering supplies in a timely manner and making sure storage areas are organised and compliant.
This role requires someone who is confident in their communication skills and able to work calmly under pressure. You'll be expected to take initiative, solve minor issues without delay, and flag any larger concerns to your Area Manager. Previous cleaning experience is essential, and supervisory or team-leading experience would be a strong advantage. This is a frontline role where your attitude, attention to detail, and reliability will make a visible difference every day.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a team of cleaning operatives, ensuring daily tasks are completed to high standards
Carry out regular cleaning duties including mopping, vacuuming, waste removal, and sanitising surfaces
Assign responsibilities to team members and monitor timekeeping, conduct, and work quality
Maintain safe and organised stock rooms, order consumables when needed, and track inventory
Arrange short-term cover when staff are off sick or on leave, using initiative and existing resources
Ensure that all health and safety policies, COSHH standards, and site protocols are followed
Report any issues with staff, cleaning machinery, or client feedback to your Area or Operations Manager
Act as the face of Heb on-site, setting the tone for professional, respectful working relationships
