At HMP Millsike, we're looking for a Workshop Instructor (Perm Cover) to support a range of vocational workshops - including manufacturing, cleaning, waste management, horticulture, and more. You'll step in during staff absence to keep activities running smoothly, ensuring that residents stay engaged in purposeful work that builds routine, skill, and confidence for the future.
You don't need to be an expert in every workshop - just confident, adaptable, and passionate about helping others develop. You'll receive support from the wider Industries team and play a vital role in maintaining structure and momentum across our busy workshop spaces.
Working Hours:
38.5 hours per week across 5 days:
Four days: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
One half-day: either 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM
What You'll Be Doing:
Lead & Support - Deliver practical instruction across multiple workshop settings, supporting skill-building and routine.
Engage & Motivate - Keep residents focused, active, and progressing in a safe, professional environment.
Adapt & Problem-Solve - Transition between different industry spaces, bringing consistency and quality to every session.
Ensure Safety - Carry out risk assessments, maintain tool control, and follow all health and safety procedures.
Track & Report - Maintain accurate attendance records, track learner progress, and contribute to rehabilitation outcomes.
About You:
Experience in a trade, workshop, or vocational training environment - such as manufacturing, waste management, cleaning, or horticulture.
Comfortable managing groups and creating a positive, structured working atmosphere.
Highly adaptable and quick to get up to speed in new environments.
Confident with basic admin tasks - tracking attendance, outputs, and learner records.
A strong commitment to safety, structure, and positive routines.
