Role Overview
The Workshop Supervisor will oversee daily operations within the woodworking workshop, directly supervising workshop operatives and joiners. You'll ensure production runs smoothly, quality standards are met, and health & safety protocols are followed. You'll play a key part in upholding Acumen Collection's reputation for excellence and sustainability.
We make handmade to order furniture from our workshop, including wall shelves, shelving units, office desks, dining tables and other bespoke furniture pieces. We mainly use Scandinavian redwood pine for the vast majority of our products, we also work with Oak and Ash.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise the activities of workshop operatives and joiners.
Plan weekly tasks to ensure production targets and deadlines are met.
Monitor quality at every stage, ensuring all work meets Acumen's high standards.
Enforce health & safety procedures within the workshop.
Support the Workshop Manager with workflow planning and inventory checks.
Liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding material needs and production challenges.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
Provide hands-on support and guidance to operatives and joiners as needed.
Encourage a collaborative, solution-focused team culture.
Requirements
Previous experience supervising or leading teams in a woodworking or furniture manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, tools, and machinery.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Knowledge of health & safety standards in a workshop setting.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
Proactive, approachable, and solution-oriented.
Desirable:
Experience glue and biscuit jointing.
Experience with custom or bespoke furniture production.
Familiarity with sustainable and eco-friendly materials.
