We are seeking an experienced and proactive Yard Manager to oversee daily operations within our logistics and warehouse environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing yard activities, supervising staff, and ensuring efficient utilisation of resources. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain processes, warehouse management systems, and transportation management systems. The Yard Manager will play a vital part in maintaining safety standards, improving operational efficiency, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.
Responsibilities
Oversee all yard activities including shipping, receiving, and storage operations to ensure smooth workflow.
Supervise yard staff, providing leadership and guidance to optimise team performance.
Manage transportation logistics using systems such as TMS (Transport Management Systems) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) platforms.
Coordinate with 3PL providers to facilitate seamless freight handling and delivery schedules.
Utilise Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and AS400 to track inventory levels, optimise stock rotation, and manage order fulfilment.
Operate forklift trucks safely for loading and unloading goods, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Implement process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing safety standards.
Monitor profit & loss statements related to yard operations to identify areas for financial optimisation.
Maintain accurate records of shipping & receiving activities, ensuring documentation compliance.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by analysing operational data and recommending best practices in logistics management.
Experience
Proven supervising experience within a warehouse or logistics environment.
Strong knowledge of supply chain management, including logistics, shipping & receiving processes.
Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and AS400 is highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to manage profit & loss responsibilities effectively.
Familiarity with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma is advantageous.
Competence in operating forklift trucks safely; relevant certifications preferred.
Prior experience working with 3PL providers and managing complex logistics operations is beneficial.
