Overview

We are seeking a reliable and physically capable Yard Operator to join our team. This role involves managing materials, operating equipment, and supporting warehouse operations within a busy industrial environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and experience in warehouse or construction settings. The Yard Operator will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods and materials, maintaining safety standards, and supporting logistical activities on-site.

Responsibilities

Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, and transport goods around the yard. Assist with shipping and receiving tasks, including verifying deliveries and preparing items for dispatch. Manage inventory using warehouse management systems to track stock levels and locations accurately. Load and unload materials from lorries, containers, or storage areas efficiently and securely. Support warehouse organisation by stacking, storing, and retrieving items as required. Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment such as forklifts to ensure operational safety. Assist with general yard maintenance, including cleaning work areas and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Collaborate with team members to meet daily operational targets while adhering to health and safety regulations. Support construction-related activities if necessary, utilising mechanical knowledge for assembly or repair tasks.

Experience

Previous experience operating forklifts is essential; certification is preferred but not mandatory if training can be provided. Warehouse experience involving materials handling, shipping & receiving, or yard management is highly desirable. Familiarity with warehouse management systems or similar inventory software is advantageous. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently during daily operations. Proven ability to work in physically demanding environments with attention to safety standards.
