Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) are responsible for Europe's largest natural Harbour and as part of this operate one of the UK's leading Trust Ports servicing Ro-Ro, Lo-Lo, Conventional, Cruise and Marina operations.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Harbour Master's Marine Services Team and establish your career at the Port of Poole. As a

you will be a key member of a team that will make a real difference to our business and make the Port an even better place for our customers, stakeholders, and employees.
Your duties will require a focus at all times on health and safety. We are looking for someone who has proven experience in a similar role, with demonstrable expertise and a can-do attitude.
Job Requirements / Attributes
Knowledge of Poole Harbour
Previous Commercial boat experience
Boating qualification i.e. RYA Advanced Powerboat, BML or Yachtmaster
Able to work within a small team
Flexible Working / Shift Pattern
Living within 30 minutes of the Port
Driving Licence preferable
Working hours:
Flexible Working / Shift Pattern
Normal Hours of Work 4 shifts on (24 hours on call requirement to cover pilotage, towage and emergencies)
Followed by 4 shifts off

Deck Hand/Yard Hand
Responsible for ensuring that all safety precautions necessary for the safe boarding and landing of pilots are taken.
Such other duties within his/her capability that may from time to time be specified. This will include being crew of all other vessels within the HM Department
Undertake routine maintenance and operational /safety checks of PHC vessels and equipment.
On-station maintenance of navigation buoys and beacons, and associated lighting systems. Replacement of defective components and batteries as requested.
Refurbishment and replacement of navigational stakes and top marks.
Overhaul and relaying of PHC hired moorings, and non-navigational buoys and signs
(i.e. speed limit buoys, waterski and PW signs), ashore and on station as requested.
Carrying out harbour patrols and monitoring of activities within the Harbour.
Watching for irregularities or potentially hazardous situations and taking remedial action as appropriate.
Acting as Deckhand on PHC vessels.
Cleaning of the Harbour Master's Department workshop and associated Port area.
Cleaning of the foreshores around the Harbour.
Marking and/or disposal of wrecks, pollution, response and other navigational and environmental issues as required.
The provision of fresh water to commercial vessels at quays and at the Ro/Ro berths. Maintenance of water points and equipment
Repairing and modifying steel and fiberglass buoys. Construction of towers, cages, top marks and fittings for buoys, beacons and signs
Maintaining the lighting systems fitted to navigational buoys and beacons.
To ensure that safe working methods are always adopted, and good timekeeping is maintained.
To compile reports and records that may from time to time be required.
To promptly report all incidents involving personal injury and/or damage to plant or property.
To liaise where necessary with all Harbour users and to endeavour to promote the interests of the Commissioners at all times.
To ensure that Poole Harbour Byelaws are observed by all Harbour users at all times, reporting all incidents observed that are considered to be of a dangerous nature or a breach of the Harbour Byelaws.
