Discount Builders Merchants are a family-owned and growing business with over 20 years' experience supplying the building trade and DIY enthusiasts. With depots across the West Midlands, Banbury, and Kent, we pride ourselves on delivering excellent service and top-quality products to our customers.

Due to continued growth, we are now seeking an experienced and motivated Yard Operative to join our friendly team in Slough. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and takes pride in maintaining a safe, tidy, and efficient yard environment.

Key responsibilities-

Handle and maintain yard stock efficiently.

Load customer orders safely onto company vehicles for delivery.

Serve and assist customers courteously and professionally.

Ensure stock is well presented and displayed to its best advantage.

Keep the yard and work areas clean, tidy, and safe at all times.

Check and report stock levels and shortages to the Branch Manager.

Receive and put away deliveries, ensuring accuracy against paperwork.

Liaise with Counter Staff and Management on a daily basis.

Knowledge, skills and ability:

Good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to use both metric and imperial measurements.

Understanding of manual handling and basic health & safety.

General product and yard knowledge (training can be provided).

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Flexibility to work shifts and adapt to changing priorities.

Preferred not Essential:

Experience working in a builders' merchant or construction environment.

Forklift licence or certification (current or expired).

Valid UK driving licence.
