to support our operations and contribute to the smooth running of our yard, plant nursery, and site logistics.
Position Summary:
The Yardman plays a vital support role within the company, ensuring the yard, nursery, equipment, tools, and materials are maintained, organised, and ready to meet the demands of the business. The successful candidate will work closely with all departments, offering assistance to teams and management to ensure operational efficiency, plant health, and compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:Yard Operations & General Duties
Fetch and Carry:
Transport tools, equipment, and materials between the yard, nursery, and work sites.
Fuel and Waste Management:
Safely store, handle, and distribute fuel and oils.
Manage green waste, recycling, and general site waste disposal.
Inventory and Stock Control:
Monitor stock levels of tools, materials, and consumables.
Assist with ordering, deliveries, and accurate stock recording.
Yard Cleanliness and Organisation:
Keep the yard tidy, well-organised, and hazard-free.
Ensure proper storage of tools and materials.
Health and Safety:
Maintain safe working practices and report hazards.
Support adherence to company health, safety, and environmental policies.
General Maintenance:
Perform basic maintenance of equipment, tools, and yard facilities.
Support seasonal preparations and machinery upkeep.
Support for All Departments:
Provide operational support across landscaping, arboriculture, and grounds maintenance teams.
Assist with mobilising teams and loading/unloading equipment.
Management Support:
Provide logistical and hands-on assistance to management as required.
Support planning, audits, and general administrative tasks.
Plant Nursery Management
Daily Nursery Care:
Maintain plant health through watering, feeding, weeding, and pruning routines.
Monitor and report on plant condition, pests, or diseases.
Stock and Labelling:
Organise nursery stock, maintain accurate plant inventory, and ensure correct labelling.
Assist with plant selection and preparation for site use or client delivery.
Nursery Cleanliness and Layout:
Keep the nursery organised and clean with clear access paths.
Optimise space and maintain visual order.
Seasonal Support:
Assist with propagation, potting, and rotation of stock based on seasonal demand.
Support incoming deliveries and unloading of nursery plants.
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience in yard or grounds maintenance, plant handling, or similar operational role preferred.
Basic knowledge of plant care and horticultural practices desirable.
Familiarity with landscaping/arboriculture tools and equipment.
Full UK driving licence preferred (trailer towing beneficial).
Forklift certification is an advantage.
