Job Summary
IBK are currently supporting a young man in S2 who is seeking to find a PA to support him both at home in the community. Having Cerebral Palsy, the 24 year old man is a wheel chair user and is looking for someone who can provide him with both practical and social support.
In his own words, this young gent wants both the support 'to live the life he wants to live' and be
'treated with respect, the same as anyone his own age.'
Joining his small group of PA's, the most important aspect of the role would be to support him to access social activities, hobbies and building his independence. This young man's hobbies include going to the gym and going out to cafes. He also loves playing basket ball and combat sports. Then when at home he enjoys gaming, watching movies and reading Marvel/DC comics. He has also made his own music and edited films in the past.
The perfect PA would be someone who has the right values, shared interests and who is an empathetic person with a good sense of humour.
Although experience is helpful, full training is provided via the family and his existing PA team. You will be working within a family home with siblings and parents present, as well as other PA's.
Being a PA the responsibilities would involve:
- Manual handling and personal care including supporting the gent in getting ready for bed in the evening
- Assistance when moving and handling while supporting him with daily stretches and putting on his splints (training will be provided).
Essential Criteria:
- Have a genuine desire to enhance the life of this young adult and help him to explore opportunities and hobbies
- Provide personal care in a manner that maintains this gents privacy and dignity
- Ability to learn from the family and existing P.A's
- Be respectful in the family home
- Be creative, with a fun and honest approach
- Willing to invest in getting to know this young person well and commit to providing the best support
- A good sense of humour
Hours Available:
10 hours on Sundays 11am-9pm
Start and end times negotiable for the right person.
Some flexibility to cover holidays/ sickness is appreciated.
