About the Role



We are seeking a

dedicated and positive Mentor

to join our team in a

residential children's home

supporting

young males aged 11-17

who may have experienced trauma, social or emotional difficulties, or complex family circumstances.

The Mentor will play a vital role in

building trust

,

promoting positive behaviour

, and helping young people develop

confidence, life skills, and emotional resilience

. This is a hands-on, rewarding position ideal for someone passionate about making a real difference in young people's lives.

Key Responsibilities



Provide consistent mentoring, guidance, and positive role modelling for young males aged 11-17. Build safe, trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and self-esteem. Support young people to engage in education, training, or employment opportunities. Encourage participation in recreational, social, and community activities. Work collaboratively with care staff to promote structure, routine, and positive boundaries within the home. Assist with day-to-day care tasks as required, ensuring a nurturing and supportive environment. Support young people in developing independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, and personal care. Maintain accurate, professional records and contribute to care planning and progress reports. Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all interactions.

Essential Requirements



Experience working with young people, ideally within a residential or mentoring setting. Ability to build rapport with young males and act as a positive role model. Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills. A genuine passion for supporting young people to reach their potential. Reliable, flexible, and committed to safeguarding and professional conduct. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and shifts as required. Must successfully complete an

Enhanced DBS Check

(Disclosure and Barring Service).

Desirable Qualifications / Experience



Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards this). Experience supporting young people with emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties (EBD/SEMH). Knowledge of safeguarding policies and trauma-informed practice.
