An exciting opportunity to work with Start-Again Project to house, support and empower vulnerable young people and those seeking settlement status in England.
Purpose of Role:
To support UASC and young people from chaotic and/or foreign backgrounds to better their own situation, ensuring they are housed safely and happily. This work involves engaging with some of the city's most vulnerable youth, many of whom face discrimination and personal challenges.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
The role with be split into two areas:
80% direct delivery to support the progress and intention of our Young People
20% delivery and facilitation of social engagement activities
Housing, Tenancy and Settlement
Help young people to design their support plan. Complete documentation such as sign-up paperwork, risk assessments, incident reports, log notes, monthly reviews.
Liaise with social workers, PA's, collages, public services, home office, YOT officers etc on a regular basis to support the settlement process, housing issues, personal conduct, wellbeing and safety. Where necessary, support tenants to resolve issues and gather the required documents.
Update, organise and manage young people's files, ensuring that all relevant information is recorded accurately
Carry out all relevant activity that relates to young people's support plans, including mandatory duties such as room checks, registrations, appointment chaperone, Children in Care reviews, Home Office meetings, independent living sessions etc.
Maintain outcome and impact monitoring records
Support young people to manage concerns and conflicts with other tenants
Carry out any housing-related duties that support the upkeep of proactive and positive housing environments.
Clean and prepare rooms after young people have left the property
Compliance and H&S checks and duties
Occasional sleep-in support if required
Community and Wellbeing
Mentor young people to socially integrate into communities and develop their confidence, self-worth and interpersonal skills to live independent, fulfilled lives.
Identify and facilitate cultural, leisure, educational and social groups/events in the local community. Support and recruit young people to engage with learning skills, cultural integration, personal development and independent-living readiness.
Deliver in-house social activities
Demonstrate commitment to Equality and Diversity
Identify and manage any safeguarding concerns, ensuring processes are followed.
COMPETANCIES
Reporting to the Service Lead, the successful candidate will have a proven track record in a similar environment, be qualified to Level 3 in social care/youth work and will have worked in accommodation-based settings with young people from challenging backgrounds, preferably UASC.
The role would suit an individual with strong initiative, who is able to engage with young people from all walks of life. Compassion, mentoring skills and non-judgement are essential.
