Role: Young Persons Worker

Circa Salary: \xc2\xa321,300 per annum

Location: Penzance and St.Ives - West Cornwall

Contract/Hours: Permanent, Full-Time - 37 hours a week - there is regular evening work (3 x evenings a week) required along with occasional weekend work. (Flexibility is essential).

We provide a number of services across Cornwall, Kernow Connect, Cornwall SPACE, and the Adolescent Intervention Service (Connect+). This role will be supporting Kernow Connect which provides support for young people aged 11-19 and up to 25 with SEND across the County. This role is based in West Cornwall.

The service brings together a range of support for young people including youth work provision, educational needs and disabilities (SEND) participation, 1-1 support and mental health and resilience work.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide a high-quality service that is outcome driven to young people aged 11+ and up to 25 with an special educational need or disability.
  • Deliver youth activities and interventions with young people 11+ in centre-based youth groups, in communities at activities and on a 1:1 basis.
  • Maintain effective working relationships and channels of communications with colleagues and with young people and their families and where necessary encourage and promote involvement to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Be alert to child protection and safeguarding issues and inform appropriate line managers of concerns in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant networking meetings.
  • Supporting the organising achievement of work objectives on a daily basis, including both pre and forward planning.
  • Retain accurate and contemporaneous records, using various IT systems to capture case details, outputs, and outcomes as necessary and to produce written reports and present these as necessary.
  • Guiding and supporting apprentices and volunteers where necessary.
Let\'s talk about you:
  • Flexibility and availability to work 2 evenings per week.
  • Resides or relocating to Cornwall.
  • Must be able to drive and have own vehicle.
  • S/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. Youth work, social care or equivalent
  • Some qualifications and or experience of working with young people required. Preferably in the 11+ age range.
  • Experience of working in a health, early years or social care setting and as part of a team or as an individual to deliver a frontline service.
  • Experience of preparing clear and concise file notes and inputting information into office systems.
  • Ability to keep children and young people as the focus of all work and ensure the child\'s feelings and wishes are represented in meetings and record keeping.
  • Ability to engage and work with children, young people and their families, demonstrating a range of communication skills i.e. written, verbal applied in a variety of formats and situations.
  • An awareness and an ability to identify and act upon safeguarding concerns with clients and to follow agreed reporting procedures.
  • A working knowledge of working with an outcome-based approach to planning, delivering and reviewing services.
  • Ability to identify and assess individual needs and to manage and prioritize own work schedule within agreed timescales.
  • Ability and willingness to work to promote equality and an inclusive agenda within the workplace. Ability to undertake home /site visits ensuring compliance with lone working policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates commitment to personal development and undertaking relevant training.
  • Ability to effectively utilise Microsoft Outlook and other IT packages.
