Job Title: Senior Support Worker - Youth/16+ Residential Supported Living



Main Location of Work: Newport

Other Location of Work: Bristol

Reports to: Manager, Deputy Manager, and Senior Support Worker

Senior Support Worker with Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care



Hours and Pay: 35 hours per week (flexible) worked as a day shift from 9.45am to 10pm. Night shifts from 21.45pm to 10am which include a sleep in segment between 11pm and 7am paid at 65/75.

Pay commences at regional probational level of 12.85 p/h, and rises to 13.00p/h after the successful completion of the probation with NVQ level 3+ in Health and Social Care

Pay commences at the probational level of 30,147, with the potential to rise to 33,140 after the successful completion of the probation and beyond. The figure is based on 35 hours plus 2 sleep-in shifts per week.

Sleep-in shifts 23:00 to 07:00 are paid at a flat rate of 65 per shift to start rising to 75 after probation

Centre Peace was founded by an experienced Foster Carer, and our staff team are enthusiastic about providing holistic, high-quality, therapeutically informed care tailored to each young person's specific requirements. We support children and young people who have complex needs which include Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), Gang Affiliations, and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). We create a home environment that exceeds the needs of the children and young people, enabling them to express their characters, feel safe, and enrich their lives.

This direct work involves keeping the children safe and following their tailored support and safeguarding plans to help them develop the skills needed to reach independence. You will be supporting a small range of young people on a one-to-one basis and together, to settle into life possibly within a new area.

You will help them orientate themselves, get around on public transport, or transport them in the company pool car, access education and training, pursue hobbies and interests, look after themselves in their home, assist with cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and establishing routines and structure. You will take them on social outings, organise trips, and support family contact as needed. You will sign post them to agencies and services to support and enhance their lives e.g., legal support, religious needs, mental health support, and sporting activities or teams.

To be successful, you must:



Possess at least an NVQ level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care.

Willing to undergo training to register with Social Care Wales.

Aged 22 and over to fulfil the legal requirements of the role (Exempt under the Equality Act 2010, pursuant to schedule 9, Part 1).

Be able to showcase proven experience of working as a Support Worker or Carer with children or young adults for at least 6 months.

Have experience with other cultures and their needs such as linguistic, religious, and cultural.

Possess both experience and knowledge of safeguarding young people.

Be comfortable and confident dealing with challenging behaviours and setting firm boundaries.

Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English.

Be flexible to work across a rota and ability to adjust your schedule as required.

Have good computer skills for record keeping.

Have a clean driving license

Be able to provide three satisfactory references, 2 being professional and 1 being a character.

Undertake an enhanced DBS check if you are not already on the update service.

Desirable:



Experience Youth or Community Work; Supported Living; and Young People with Emtopnal and Behavioural Difficulties

Have Experience of working with USAC.

Speak Welsh, Pashto, Sorani, Farsi, Arabic.

Responsibilities:



Provide a positive, welcoming, and stimulating environment for the young people.

Establish and maintain positive relationships with young people.

Respect and meet the physical, cultural, emotional, communication, religious, educational, and psychological needs of young people and colleagues.

Encourage young people to have a voice and input into the service they receive and to follow up on this accordingly.

Always behave in a professional manner.

Safeguard the children/young people from harm and promote their welfare.

Discussing any potential risks/concerns with your Senior/Manager.

Protect the confidentially of the young people.

Keep abreast of developments within the profession including knowledge of legislation, policy, and practice procedures relating to care leavers.

Deliver the objectives set in the young person's Pathway Plan/Development Plan.

Record the daily events and activities of the young people using company systems such as Log My Careand ClearCare.

Prepare for and attend relevant meetings regarding the young people, such as child reviews, house meetings, strategy meetings etc.

Support language and communication needs.

Assist in the planning and delivery of a healthy eating plan including dietary advice, shopping lists, budgets around a specific menu, food preparation, and cooking.

Support the young people in maintaining their accommodation, including laundry and cleaning.

Provide guidance around money management and budgeting.

Provide guidance and signposting around careers, education, and training.

Provide support and guidance around topics such as staying safe, maintaining mental and physical health, drug and alcohol use, and relationships.

Arrange and accompany young people to appointments e.g., doctors, opticians, school, or college, as required.

Support contact with family and friends to ensure safety and satisfaction for all.

Routine cleaning and tidying of the home to maintain it to a high standard.

Routine cleaning and general upkeep of the company vehicle.

Complete mandatory online training courses to enhance knowledge of topics, and better equip staff for when situations may arise with young people.

You will be required to accompany young people to various locations around the Newport area and further afield, therefore, a full clean UK driving licence is essential.

Be punctual, appropriately dressed, and reliable

Always maintain the young person's/staff's confidentiality.

Ensure information is only disclosed to those who have a right and need for it.

To always function as a positive role model.

Be polite, courteous, and supportive to all team members.

Be able to work on your own initiative.

Adhere to the Codes of Practice and Care Council of Wales.

Attend training on a regular basis to enhance performance.

To attend staff meetings.

Be flexible with working arrangements and be able to cover leave as required.

To collaborate closely with other members of the team for the ultimate benefit of the people living in the home.
