Youth Offending Team, Children's Service Directorate
Job Purpose
The Youth Justice Service Officer works within a multi-agency Youth Justice Service (YJS) to prevent offending by children and young people, delivering interventions in line with statutory requirements and national/local priorities. The role supports the YJS aims of preventing crime, addressing offending behaviour, meeting victim/community needs, and promoting interventions reducing risk factors and reinforcing young people's and parents' responsibilities.
Key Accountabilities
1. Supervise Statutory Orders: Manage court orders for children/young people subject to YJS responsibility.
2. Encourage Compliance: Facilitate young people's compliance with court orders; use enforcement processes for non-compliance.
3. Report Preparation: Prepare pre-sentence, referral order reports per national standards.
4. Court Representation: Represent YJS at Youth Court and other courts as required.
5. Support Remanded Young People: Collaborate with children's services for young people remanded to Local Authority accommodation.
6. Secure Estate Engagement: Work with young people in custody addressing offending behaviour for resettlement.
7. Appropriate Adult Role: Attend PACE interviews of arrested young people as required.
8. Caseload Management: Manage caseload; conduct direct work with young people/parents/carers.
9. Assessment & Intervention: Use ASSET/ASSETPlus for assessments; develop intervention plans addressing offending behaviour.

Qualifications
- Professional Qualification: Social work, probation, youth/community work, health, education OR relevant degree with experience working with children/young people (Essential).
- Valid Driving License: Required with access to a motor vehicle (Essential).
- HCPC Registration
Additional Requirements
- Availability outside normal hours (evenings/weekends/bank holidays).
- Ability to travel.
