Youth Mentor

Location:

Gloucestershire and surrounding counties (including travel to various settings)

Reporting To:

Line Manager, Safeguarding Lead

Job Purpose:



To provide tailored mentoring support to children and young people facing a variety of challenges, empowering them to develop confidence, resilience, and essential life skills. To act as a positive role model and advocate, fostering positive relationships and supporting young people to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:



Mentoring and Support:



Provide one-on-one and group mentoring sessions to young people based on individual needs and goals. Develop and implement personalized mentoring plans, incorporating relevant activities and strategies. Offer guidance and support in areas such as education, personal development, social skills, and emotional well-being. Utilize a trauma-informed approach to build trusting and supportive relationships. Support young people with SEND and SEMH needs.

Relationship Building and Communication:



Establish and maintain positive relationships with young people, families, schools, and other professionals. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, providing regular updates and progress reports. Act as an advocate for young people, ensuring their needs are met.

Activity Planning and Delivery:



Plan and deliver engaging and therapeutic activities, assisting children and young people to complete their curriculum set education. Adapt activities to meet the individual needs and interests of young people. Conduct mentoring sessions in various settings, including the Learning Hub, schools, community locations, and family homes.

Record Keeping and Reporting:



Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of mentoring sessions and progress. Prepare and submit regular reports to the Line Manager/Safeguarding Lead Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures.

Professional Development:



Participate in regular supervision and training sessions. Stay up-to-date with best practices in mentoring and child development. Contribute to the ongoing development of the mentoring program.

Safeguarding:



To be fully aware of and adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures. To report any safeguarding concerns immediately.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Experience working with children and young people in a support or mentoring role. A strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping others. The ability to build rapport and establish trust with young people from diverse backgrounds. A proactive and flexible approach to work. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable:



A relevant qualification in youth work, education, or a related field. Experience working with young people with SEND and SEMH needs. Experience or interest in animal therapy, sports, or music.

Pay: Up to 20.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

Bristol: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
