At Challenge Me we are committed to engaging and mentoring vulnerable young people so that they can live happy, authentic, and fulfilling lives, regardless of who they are and what challenges they are facing.
The role of mentor would be ideal for someone who has 'real life experience', having navigated through challenging life circumstances or bad habits themselves - and now has a deep understanding of how to overcome adversity through self-development.
They will be driven and motivated, whilst not letting their own past life choices or 'errors of the way' deter them. Their past experiences mean that they are empathetic - and firm but fair - and now want to find job satisfaction from knowing they are making a life changing difference to a young person in need.
The right candidate for this role will be passionate about supporting young people who have experienced hardship and struggle with social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.
Successful candidates will need to be available for ad hoc training days and a DBS certificate will also be required for this role.

You will be expected to provide support and guidance to young people who are experiencing difficulties and challenges due to social, emotional, or behavioural problems or a variety of other potential issues and needs, using the Challenge Me guidance. Full training will be provided to:
Deliver a structured program of planned mentoring sessions out in the community and work with the lead mentor to appropriately plan focused activities to achieve specific outcomes for your mentees.
Be a positive role model to the young person matched to you for mentoring and providing assistance in social skills, communication skills, personal development, behaviour management, drug, alcohol and exploitation awareness
To offer honesty, guidance, support, and encouragement to the young person.
To encourage engagement in the mentoring program, and support the development of mentoring relationships to help young people to take positive steps and make changes in their lives.
Work with the lead mentor to agree target areas and strategies to achieve these targets for the young person.
Ensure the safety of service users and report any concerns regarding the young person's welfare as outlined in the safeguarding policy and procedure.
To recognise not only the service user's needs but also their potential and aspirations and help them to take steps to achieve this.
To maintain accurate session records and participate in the formulation of progress review reports and assessment meetings where required.
Understand and implement the procedures of Challenge Me.
Work independently, collaboratively, and reliably ensuring your commitments to each young person are met.
Attend staff meetings and training sessions as and when required.
Take part in supervision, session observations, and other performance management meetings as and when required.
Mentors will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate and as requested by their manager, this could include other locations.
Driving is essential for this role as the position requires transporting young people using your vehicle from schools and their homes to activity venues. Business vehicle insurance will need to be obtained prior to appointment.
