GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Oblate Youth Ministry Worker will assist the Oblates in the London Region to foster and coordinate the development of new and existing projects and youth initiatives and help assure that they faithfully reflect Oblate spirituality and vision.

QUALIFICATIONS/ CHARACTERISTICS:

The ability to communicate values and vision, and to promote youth ministry and mission.



The ability to drive an understanding of and commitment to an Oblate vision for youth mission and ministry.

Ability to work as part of a team and in a collaborative style.



Demonstrates a willingness to uphold the values associated with the mission and values of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Experience of youth work/ministry is desirable.



Demonstrated competency in organisational and project management;

It is desirable to have an awareness of the Oblate mission and a commitment to care of the poor and marginalised.



Full, clean driving licence is desireable.

Up-to-date IT skills and proficiency in the use of social media.



Recognised third level qualification in theology/pastoral ministry/religious studies is desirable but not essential.

HOURS OF WORK & LOCATION:

The standard working week will be 37.5 hrs to be worked on a flexible basis. The work will involve evening and weekend work. The position is primarily based in London Region, but will involve regular travel around the UK, both to Ireland and overseas.

ACCOUNTABLE TO:

The successful candidate would be accountable to Provincial Administration of the Anglo Irish Province; He/she is directly responsible to the Director of Youth Ministry appointed by the Provincial Council. The successful candidate will engage with a number of key groups, including the Missionary Oblates , Oblate Youth Service, Oblate Mission with Youth initiatives and other individuals and groups as necessary.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Visits, liaises with and supports current youth programs in Oblate parishes and works and assists with the development of Oblate Youth groups in local communities where deemed appropriate.

2. Participates in the development, publishing and distribution of formation material for local communities.

3. Engages in all approved opportunities of training, formation and personal evaluation.

4. Leads by example and insures that all involved conduct themselves as living witnesses of the Gospel values

5. Identifies, promotes, supports and drives leadership at all levels of the Oblate Youth Activities and Service.

6. Participates effectively and promptly in all forms of communication within the Oblate Youth structure.

7. Prepares reports for and attend meetings of the Oblate Youth Service.

8. Supports the administration of the Oblate Youth Service annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes including engaging with the Lourdes Committee, processing applications, supporting recruitment within the membership and processing payments.

9. Assists in organisation and promoting participation in and the attending of World Youth Day and other major youth events.

10. Provides the necessary support for local Safeguarding requirements, maintain all relevant records, participate in all appropriate training and arrange and lead local meetings as required.

11. Has primary responsibility in organizing Youth groups in the London region.

12. Assists in the setting up and participates in overseas links and opportunities for people to engage in and volunteer for missionary experience.

13. Co-ordinates volunteers in designated projects.

14. Promote the awareness of faith and Oblate charism and spirituality.

15. Keeps updated on current issues in spirituality and in the Oblate Mission.

16. Prepares an annual budget and maintains accounts for the relevant projects.

17. Performs other duties as requested by the Provincial Council and/or the Director of Youth Ministry.

18. Performs duties in a manner that is consistent with the mission, values, and policies of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
