We balance participation and performance pathways and have a strong connection with Oxford Brookes, City of Oxford College and several of our youth players in the Gloucester Rugby development pathway
About the Role
This is a newly created role designed to strengthen and support our volunteer coaching community. As our first Coaching Development Officer, you'll act as a mentor, connector, and resource for coaches across all youth age groups (U5-U18), with a particular focus on our earlier years (U5-U12).
This is a hands-on, people-focused role where you'll make a real difference to both coaches and players.
Key Responsibilities
Support and mentor volunteer coaches to plan and deliver enjoyable, age-appropriate training sessions
Observe sessions and provide constructive, supportive feedback to help coaches develop
Facilitate regular workshops or coaching forums to share ideas, resources, and best practices
Develop and maintain a shared library of session plans, seasonal frameworks, and skill development materials
Promote consistency across age groups to support player pathway as they progress
Coordinate external opportunities such as guest coach sessions or links with RFU development programmes
Build collaboration and connection within the coaching community
Build connections with local schools for player recruitment
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Strong understanding of youth rugby coaching and player development pathways
Experience coaching within minis, juniors, and / or academy rugby environments
Familiarity with RFU Age Grade Rugby framework and game progression
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - able to inspire, guide, and build trust
Collaborative mindset with genuine enthusiasm for supporting volunteer coaches
Organised and proactive, with the ability to plan and follow through on initiatives
Desirable:
Connections with local state sector schools
Previous experience mentoring or developing fellow coaches
Understanding of player retention and club development dynamics
Time Commitment
20 hours per month
during the active season (Jan 2026 - May 2026)
Attendance at youth training sessions on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings
Typical activities include on-pitch mentoring, resource development, and monthly workshops
This is a pilot year appointment, with review and potential renewal at the end of the season (May 2026)
