1:1 SEND Support Worker (Nursery)

15 hours per week - with the opportunity to increase to 30 hours from September 2026.

Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 12:00pm

Term time only

Start as soon as possible

Purpose of the Role

To provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with additional needs, ensuring they can access the Early Years curriculum in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. The role involves supporting the child's learning, development, communication, and emotional well-being in line with their individual support plan.

Key Responsibilities

Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the child's individual needs

Support the child's learning, play, and engagement within the nursery environment

Implement strategies outlined in the child's Individual Support Plan and SEN targets

Encourage the development of communication, social interaction, and independence

Support emotional regulation and behaviour using positive, inclusive approaches

Work closely with the key person, SENCO, and wider nursery team

Observe, record, and feedback on the child's progress and needs

Liaise appropriately with parents/carers and external professionals when required

Ensure the child's safety, dignity, and well-being at all times

Follow all nursery policies, including safeguarding, health & safety, and confidentiality

Person Specification

Essential

Experience working with children in an Early Years or childcare setting

Understanding of SEND and inclusive practice

Patient, caring, and flexible approach

Ability to follow guidance and work as part of a team

Good communication skills

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Experience supporting children with specific needs (e.g. autism, speech and language delay, sensory needs)

Relevant childcare qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3 Early Years, Teaching Assistant, or equivalent)

Training in SEND, behaviour support, or communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton)

Pay: 10.00-13.00 per hour
