I'm a LGBTQ, disabled creative and cultural leader who relies on 24/7 care. I'm currently recruiting to my supportive and skilled care team for people to work with me one-on-one in my Lewisham home. I have both day and/or night shifts available across weekdays and weekends.
My life is full: I run a creative organisation, work freelance, spend quality time with my wife, and keep busy - at least at my computer. Your support enables all of this--, you will be providing the essential personal and medical care that helps me live fully and independently.
Who I'm Looking For
Ideally, you'll have some experience in care, whether in someone's home, a hospital, care home, SEN setting, or similar. What matters more to me though is that you're a confident driver, adaptable, quick-thinking, calm under pressure, and up for the practical realities of care and the bodily fluids involved. I also hope you like big dogs (I'm planning to adopt one soon!). Above all, reliability is essential for me, because my life is depending on you.
Your Responsibilities
Supporting with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting)
Providing medical support: stoma/catheter care, ventilation, jejunal feeding, injections (routine and emergency), and medication management
Manual handling, including hoisting and repositioning
Keeping the home clean and safe, including light housekeeping and equipment checks
Monitoring and restocking medical supplies and medications
Driving my adapted automatic vehicle when needed
Key Requirements
Full UK driving licence and confidence driving an automatic car in London (essential)
Must be based in the UK and have the right to work here (I'm unable to offer sponsorship)
LGBTQ-friendly and comfortable supporting me (essential)
Able to work independently and as part of a friendly team
Prior care experience with relevant training/certification (a bonus, but not required)
My care team makes everything I do possible--they're central to my life, my work, and my wellbeing. If you're someone who wants to make a meaningful difference every day, I'd love to hear from you.
Day shifts typically begin around 07:15. Night shifts generally start between 21:00-22:00 and run until about 07:30.

Application question(s):
What interested you about this job?
Are you currently based in the UK with the right and ability to work in the UK? If so, are you limited to working 20 hours per week (this is not a dealbreaker, but I would need to know).
Are you a confident driver happy to drive a large automatic vehicle? Are you under 21, 21-24, or 25 and above (for insurance purposes)? Being under 25 will not disqualify you, but I would need to know
Are you comfortable learning from heavily text-based materials in English and working from text-based instructions?
Are you happy around dogs? I expect to get another dog, very possibly a large greyhound, in the next six months.
Are you fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and happy to get all COVID, flu, and other future vaccinations as required?
Do you understand that this is a vital healthcare job, and that reliability is absolutely essential for shifts, including you coming into work whether I'm well or ill?
Are you able to commute to Lewisham for a start time of 07:15am for day shifts, and (approx) 21:00 for night shifts, and to be flexible with start and finish times where my schedule requires it?
Are you happy to learn how to give the necessary care, including intimate personal care, stoma care, feeding tube care, respiratory and ventilation care, bowel management and injections to somebody female (training provided)?
Are you physically fit and strong enough to undertake a role which includes 'manual handling' and supporting me to change position in my bed, chair, and be transferred between them safely (training provided)?
