You should be qualified to at least a level 3 qualification in a relevant field. Ideally, you will have had experience of working with children with VI, sensory processing, complex and medical needs. A strong understanding of how to adapt the curriculum and how to apply this in supporting the class teacher during multi-sensory activities would be desirable.
We are looking for team players with a can-do attitude, patience, perseverance and a drive to make a difference. If you have a sense of humour, a positive outlook and are able to work independently and as part of our team we would love to hear from you.
We are recruiting a teaching assistant to support and care for the following pupil:
Working under the direction of the class teacher you will support a KS2 ambulant pupil who is heavily reliant on their wheelchair. They are verbal and will need significant support in their academic learning, in accessing the multi-sensory curriculum, as well as in developing their personal, social, emotional and communication skills. This pupil demonstrates strong ASC traits and behaviours. You will be expected to carry out physical tasks such as changing and supporting any feeding and personal care needs. Significant sensory walks and classroom breaks are required to support this individual in regulating their sensory seeking behaviours throughout the day. This will also include self-directed 1:1 activities outside of the classroom environment. You will need to be patient, caring, fun and have lots of energy to ensure you can keep up with the physical demands of the role and enjoy sessions across the timetable.
You will be provided with suitable training to support the individual and their targets/outcomes, this will be identified during the interview process. These might include positive behaviour support training, mobility training and VI strategies.
