SEN 1-2-1 Support Assistant

Essential Criteria:



Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning and Development (or equivalent)

Desirable Criteria:



Experience of working with children with special educational needs in a nursery or school setting.
A good knowledge and understanding of the different social, cultural and physical needs of the child.
Previous training in aspects of SEN
Experience of working with SEN children in the past.
LOCATION: Country Kids Day Nursery, 223 Killaughey Road,
Donaghadee, BT21 0LJ.

HOURS: 2 Afternoon shifts, 12-6pm, in the Afterschool Room.

JOB PURPOSE



Provide 1:1 support for individual children who have complex and special educational needs.

To develop a good knowledge of the needs of the child.

Assist the learning of the child you are assigned, to support, observe and plan based on their individual needs and provide high standards of quality learning helping them to integrate as fully as possible into the routine and activities of the room.

Promote their general development and wellbeing.

Working alongside the nursery's SENCO and the staff team with regards to meeting any targets from their Individual Care Plan, contributing to planning and deliverance.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



Clarifying and explaining instructions to the child in a manner that they can understand.

Ensuring the child can use the equipment and any materials provided or adapting if needed.

Motivating and encouraging the child as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to child's needs.

Using praise, commentary, and assistance to encourage the child to participate, concentrate and stay on task.

Promoting the acceptance and inclusion, encouraging the child to interact with others in an appropriate and acceptable manner.

Monitoring the child's response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as to achieve the desired outcomes.

Giving positive encouragement, feedback and praise to reinforce and sustain the child's efforts and develop self-reliance and self-esteem.

To attend any related/relevant training to keep up-to-date with working with SEN children.

To foster links between the nursery and home life.

To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the child's needs.

Maintain a secure, safe and happy environment for the child.

To carry out any duties as directed by the Room Leader or SENCO.

To support staff and create a good team spirit.

To ensure that SS guidelines and Nursery Policies are adhered to.
