The DDaT profession in the Welsh Government supports a range of digital services across the whole organisation. As part of our DDaT profession, you will be a key part of the Architects Office and will make a significant and direct contribution for the people of Wales.

DDaT profession in the Welsh Government supports a range of digital services across the whole organisation.


An infrastructure operations engineer is responsible for the preparation and support of IT operations solutions and services, physical or virtual. They do so according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) throughout the product life cycle. You will:

create and maintain documentation perform all routine tasks according to process and checklists monitor infrastructure and applications services alert and take appropriate action

As this role is within a team of IT Infrastructure Engineers, a technical background is required to understand the supported technologies. However, you will not be expected to perform tasks of a highly technical nature.

Person specification



Monitor and report on the performance and availability of IT systems and services, using appropriate tools and methods. Detect notifications and conduct monitor checks to ensure that systems are running correctly. Highlight and escalate service impacting incident and problems, working with IT Operations Engineers and other IT professionals to ensure resolution Contribute to changes and enhancements to IT infrastructure and applications, following agreed processes and standards. Provide support to IT professionals and contribute to the documentation and knowledge base of IT systems and services. Provide datacentre management support to maintain security levels of WG secure areas Provide escorting services to contractors and visitors requiring access to WG Secure areas. Monitor backup reports and maintain physical backup media. Monitor and maintain application and hardware roadmaps flagging key renewal and end of life dates. Monitor and maintain Certificate records, flagging with service owners when action is to be taken. Maintain externally registered DNS as required for externally issued certificates. Maintain externally issued SSL certificates, as required for corporate applications and services. Perform routine technical tasks with the assistance of pre-defined process and guidance tasks. Escalating and advising on potential challenges regarding DNS and certificate management to service owners. Keep up to date with emerging technologies and trends and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation in IT operations.
