We are seeking an experienced Academic Developer with a strong background in online education to lead the diversification and enhancement of our online taught provision. The successful candidate will work across our online MSc and Postgraduate Diploma-level programmes and collaborate with colleagues throughout the Faculty of Education and beyond to promote effective, research-informed online teaching practices that support an excellent student experience. This is an exciting opportunity to shape LSTM's online education strategy and help deliver a flexible, high-quality learning experience to students around the globe.
The postholder will play a key leadership role in developing new programmes, enhancing existing ones, and ensuring pedagogical excellence across all modes of delivery. They will bring a track record of designing, developing and managing online education and the ability to lead institutional change through collaborative practice.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading the development and delivery of online taught programmes (MSc or Diploma or short CPD courses) that align with LSTM's Education Strategy and meet the needs of a diverse global student population.
Ensuring all programme development is pedagogically sound, evidence-based, and aligned with LSTM's broader education initiatives and strategic priorities.
Creating and documenting best practices in online programme design, from storyboarding to implementation, and developing staff guidance resources and development sessions to support colleagues.
Working with LSTM's Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team and Student Experience team to embed innovation and support a vibrant, inclusive online learning community.
Providing academic development and staff training to enhance online and hybrid learning practices across the institution.
Supporting quality assurance and review processes, ensuring that online teaching meets institutional standards and student expectations.
Undertaking research or scholarly activity in partnership with colleagues in the Faculty of Education to support the development of evidence-based online pedagogy.
Appraising opportunities for strategic development of new online courses, based on data insights, sector trends and LSTM's mission.
The successful candidate will possess:
A good honours degree or professional qualification in a relevant area.
Experience and track record of designing, developing and managing online programmes at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Extensive knowledge of pedagogical principles underlying effective online teaching and assessment.
Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE), or eligibility to apply within 6 months of appointment.
Specialist knowledge in curriculum design, student engagement, assessment and feedback in online education.
Experience of delivering online postgraduate/professional teaching.
