Purpose of job
The Academic Quality Manager (HE) is responsible for ensuring the highest standards in teaching, learning, and assessment within British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ) higher education courses. This role plays a crucial part in developing practices, supporting faculty, and overseeing quality assurance measures to enhance student experience and academic standards.
Key areas of responsibility
Under the direction of the Head of Academic Quality and Standards providing definitive advice and guidance to members of the Academy and its collaborative partners regarding the regulations, and academic codes of practice.
Drive continuous professional development (CPD
)
and increase engagement for teaching staff, ensuring training on teaching methodologies and assessment.
Lead internal audits and reviews to assess the effectiveness of teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
Ensure curriculum delivery meets accreditation standards, promoting best practices in pedagogy and assessment.
Oversee assessment and internal verification practices to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with intended learning outcomes.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to enhance learning resources, student engagement, and academic performance.
Monitor student outcomes, retention, and progression rates, identifying areas for improvement.
Act as secretary to academic committees including Assessment Boards scheduling and planning meetings, preparing agendas and paperwork, taking minutes, and following up actions.
Coordinate annual programme reviews, collating the feedback and data required for review, providing advice and guidance to programme teams and senior stakeholders on areas of interest or concern, and monitoring action plans throughout the year.
Manage BAJ's relationship with external examiners, collating feedback, and annual reports to enhance teaching and learning.
Maintain positive reports from external examiners on assessment quality.
Regularly attend all BAJ sites to support and monitor the delivery of HE courses, undertake reviews and deliver training.
Provide holistic support to Programme teams throughout the academic year to ensure the smooth delivery of the academic quality lifecycle, scheduling meetings, taking notes, and resolving issues.
Make a significant contribution to the work of BAJ by supporting its strategic goals and assisting in other areas as and when required.
Person specification
Degree in Education, Quality Assurance, or a related field
Experience in teaching, learning, curriculum development, or academic quality management.
Knowledge of regulatory frameworksgoverning higher education and vocational training.
Proven ability to lead academic review projects, conduct audits, and drive institutional improvement.
Strong leadership and communication skills
,
with the ability to influence academic staff.
Experience leading/contributing to awarding body and other regulatory reviews.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to prepare and deliver reports and briefings
IT skills and an aptitude to exploit a range of media for effective communication and effective administrative systems and processes
Highly effective people management skills, with an ability to build relationships, foster an environment of trust, confidence, and co-operation
Ability to work effectively with external agencies, Academy, and collaborative colleagues on all aspects of quality assurance and enhancement.
Ability to effect change and develop and implement changes to processes
Conscientious and self-motivated

Methodical and thorough with an eye for detail
