Purpose of job



The Academic Quality Manager (Further Education & Apprenticeships) plays a key role in ensuring the delivery, enhancement, and compliance of Further Education (FE) and Apprenticeship programs. This position focuses on quality assurance, teaching & learning standards, and regulatory compliance, ensuring alignment with Ofsted, ESFA, Ofqual, and Awarding Organisations while driving institutional excellence.

Key areas of responsibility



Under the direction of the Head of Academic Quality and Standards providing definitive advice and guidance to members of the Academy and its collaborative partners regarding the regulations, and academic codes of practice. Lead the development and enhancement of processes for monitoring and reviewing academic programmes that will bear scrutiny in the event of inspection by Ofsted or other regulatory body. Prepare for external inspections and audits, ensuring readiness for regulatory reviews. Contribute to the development of Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) and Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs) to support continuous improvement. Drive continuous professional development (CPD

for teaching staff, ensuring training on teaching methodologies and assessment. Lead internal audits and reviews to assess the effectiveness of teaching, learning, and assessment practices. (class observations) Drive Apprenticeship Success, Retention and Completion rates by monitoring student progression, retention, and achievement to identify trends and implement targeted improvement strategies. Develop intervention plans for learners at risk of disengagement, supporting them to successfully complete their apprenticeships. Oversee the alignment of teaching, learning, and assessment methods with industry expectations and apprenticeship standards. Build and maintain strategic partnerships with employers to ensure apprenticeship training meets workforce demands. Oversee assessment and internal verification practices to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with intended learning outcomes. Work collaboratively with teaching staff to enhance learning resources, student engagement, and academic performance. Monitor learner outcomes, retention, and progression rates, identifying areas for improvement. Coordinate annual programme reviews, collating the feedback and data required for review, providing advice and guidance to programme teams and senior stakeholders on areas of interest or concern, and monitoring action plans throughout the year. Manage BAJ's relationship with external examiners, collating feedback, and annual reports to enhance teaching and learning. Maintain positive reports from external examiners on assessment quality. Regularly attend both BAJ sites (Birmingham/Chalk Farm) to support and monitor the delivery of FE courses, undertake reviews and deliver training. Make a significant contribution to the work of BAJ by supporting its strategic goals and assisting in other areas as and when required.

Person specification



Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Quality Assurance, or a related field. Extensive experience in FE, apprenticeships, or academic quality management. Strong knowledge of Ofsted, ESFA, and apprenticeship funding regulations

Proven ability to lead audits, inspections, and institutional improvement projects

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver reports and briefings IT skills and an aptitude to exploit a range of media for effective communication and effective administrative systems and processes Highly effective people management skills, with an ability to build relationships, foster an environment of trust, confidence, and co-operation Ability to effect change and develop and implement changes to processes Conscientious and self-motivated Self-critical and able to judge the quality and efficiency of own work and set
