THE POST - Academic Skills Adviser



This key role within the University's Student Advice and Development Department supports student success by providing evidence based academic skills development across the University. The post holder will offer tailored one-to-one support and design, lead, and facilitate curriculum embedded sessions and masterclasses for students from all disciplines and levels of study.

You will support learners to reach their academic potential through expert guidance in areas such as academic writing, study strategies, critical thinking, and assessment preparation. Working in partnership with academic and professional services colleagues, you will also contribute to the creation and delivery of high quality masterclasses and learning resources that enhance the overall student experience.

As an Academic Skills Adviser you will be responsible for:



Providing one on one advice and guidance to students across all schools. Working closely with colleagues in the university to support student success and student retention for the University. Conducting Lectures and masterclasses to support an array of diverse students. Creating content for the Academic Skills website, podcast and Youtube channel.

The successful candidate should have the following:



Experience in working in Higher Education Educated to degree level, or relevant experience.


Experience of planning and delivering lectures and promoting services Experience of designing and delivering masterclasses for academic skills support A working knowledge of learning technologies


Excellent relationships with internal and external colleagues Ability to work on own initiative, team building and strong IT skills.


It is essential that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. You will have demonstrable interpersonal skills, well-developed customer care skills, and be familiar with the MS Office suite.
