Sheffield United Football Club's is looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and performance-focused Assistant Chef to help fuel the next generation of players. Working closely with the Academy Chef and Head of Performance Nutrition, you'll play a hands-on role in planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality, nutritious meals that support training, performance, and recovery for Academy players and staff across a busy, high-volume programme.
Beyond day-to-day food preparation, you'll contribute to menu development within defined budgets, champion seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, help manage stock ordering and availability, and drive our commitment to reducing food waste. You'll also uphold the highest standards of food hygiene, safety, and kitchen cleanliness by supporting audits, record-keeping, and good operational practice.
Role Responsibilities:
Assist the Academy Chef with the preparation, coordination and cooking of nutritious meals for players and colleagues within Sheffield United Training Academy.
Support the Academy Chef with the ordering of produce, sourcing the best local ingredients and researching suppliers.
To support the kitchen department to reduce food waste by ensuring correct food availability.
Regularly run food hygiene and health and safety audits in the kitchen and support in the supervision of the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen department.
Be creative with menus and to be able to understand the benefits of nutritious food to aid performance and recovery.
Support the Academy Chef & Head of Performance Nutrition to create menus within a specific budget, bringing innovative menu planning to cater for a large volume of players and colleagues in accordance with the Academy timetable.
Support the kitchen to maintain all cooking items and service items in an orderly and sanitary condition according to good hygiene-keeping practices.
Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.

Essential Criteria for the Role:
Level 3 food hygiene certificate.
Minimum of Level 3 City and Guilds in catering or equivalent.
Passionate about healthy food.
Hard-working and well organised with well-established time management skills.
Flexibility with working hours to include weekends and bank holidays as per operational requirements.
Desirable Criteria for the Role:
Experience of working in a professional sport environment
