The role is responsible for leading the Accounting and Payroll team of 3 within the Finance function. The role involves overseeing daily accounting operations, managing month-end processes, and supporting the preparation of annual financial statements in compliance with FRS 102. Internal reporting is a key part of the role, through the preparation of flash and detailed MI packs. Additionally, it includes coordinating audits, ensuring tax and payroll compliance, and maintaining accurate financial records while upholding strong financial controls within the team. This role will provide pivotal support to the Group Financial Controller to ensure the quality and accuracy of the Group's financial data and reporting.

The Person




Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Experience in a leadership role within a Finance team, managing a team and developing colleagues. Demonstratable experience of preparation of management accounts, month-end and year-end close processes, and preparation of statutory accounts. Knowledge of FRS 102 and an understanding of the UK tax environment. Hold a professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience. Excellent IT skills, specifically Microsoft and Finance & Accounting packages Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential Strong interpersonal and relationship management Excellent knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable Experience of continuous improvement and managing change An understanding of payroll processes

Key responsibilities, Tasks and Activities:

Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in line with company policies and procedures. Manage the month-end processes, including general ledger entries, adjustments, and balance sheet reconciliations. Support with the preparation of the annual financial statements for the WRU group and subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with FRS 102. Coordinate and support audits by working closely with external auditors to ensure the accurate and efficient preparation of financial records. Ensure compliance with tax regulations by preparing and filing all required VAT returns on time and working with corporation tax advisors. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of financial transactions and assets, ensuring proper documentation and filing. Oversee and support the company payroll function, and its transition into the finance team, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, as well as compliance with all payroll regulations and legal requirements. Ensure a robust system of financial controls and processes is in place within the Finance team, maintaining accuracy and compliance. Manage and develop a small team of accounting and payroll specialists. Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values

The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable.
