To assist in the day-to-day financial operations of the takeaway business, ensuring that all financial records are accurate, up to date, and compliant with company policies and HMRC regulations. The Accounts Assistant will support management in maintaining cash flow, preparing reports, and ensuring smooth financial administration.
Duties
Maintain accurate records of daily sales, purchases, and expenses.
Process supplier invoices, match them with purchase orders, and prepare payments.
Reconcile daily cash takings and POS (Point of Sale) reports.
Record transactions in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage).
Assist in preparing VAT returns, payroll summaries, and other statutory filings.
Monitor bank transactions and perform regular bank reconciliations.
Assist in monthly and annual financial reports and management accounts.
Support budgeting and cost-control activities.
Maintain petty cash and staff expense records.
Communicate with suppliers, accountants, and managers regarding financial queries.
Ensure compliance with financial procedures, data accuracy, and confidentiality.
Skills
AAT Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification (or studying towards it).
Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance (preferably in hospitality or retail).
Familiarity with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero).
Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
Good understanding of VAT, payroll basics, and cash handling.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general IT literacy.
Excellent communication and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
