Accounts Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our small finance team in our office based in Burgess Hill. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of daily financial operations, from processing invoices to supporting month-end reporting, contributing to the overall efficiency of our retail accounting functions.

Hours:

37.5 hours/5 days per week, Monday - Friday - 9-5pm. Permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:



Process high-volume supplier invoices, matching with purchase orders and delivery notes Reconcile daily sales across multiple store locations and e-commerce platforms Monitor and reconcile cash, card, and online payment transactions Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of accounts payable and receivable Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies Assist with stock accounting and inventory cost analysis Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and retail performance reports Help with VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations Liaise with store managers to resolve discrepancies in financial documentation Provide administrative and clerical support to the finance department

What we're looking for:



Experience in a similar accounts or finance role, ideally within the retail sector Familiarity with retail accounting practices, including POS systems and stock reconciliation Strong proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks) Excellent attention to detail and accuracy under pressure Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work effectively in a team and independently Good communication skills for liaising with store and head office staff Resilient and adaptable to change and process improvement Be flexible and have a can-do attitude

Desirable:



AAT qualified or working toward ACCA/CIMA Experience with multi-site retail operations Understanding of margin analysis and seasonal stock reporting
