C Toms and Son Ltd is a family-run boatyard working in both the fishing industry and the leisure sector. Offering both new build and refit work for the fishing industry as well as boat storage and repairs for yachts and small craft. Alongside the boatyard the company also owns and operates the Bodinnick car ferry and the Polruan passenger ferry along with a property company.
About the Role:
We are seeking someone to work closely with our Company Accountant and Directors. You will be working to support the senior management team across various daily tasks and ongoing projects for C Toms and Son Ltd, Polruan Ferry Company Ltd and Toms Properties Ltd. The role will see you supporting our Company Accountant with bookkeeping and general administrative tasks as well as managing communications with vessel owners and working with the directors to arrange the work required, you will also look after the day-to-day management of property arm of the business. The role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety and likes to be hands-on.
Responsibilities include:
Providing support with a wide range of day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, especially during busy periods and staff absences.
Assisting with answering the phone and carrying out other general office tasks.
Preparing and entering timesheet information for all employees.
Typing up job lists for commercial vessel works and assisting in collating and completing reports on work completed.
Assisting with putting together certification folders for works completed on commercial vessels.
Managing communications with yacht owners to arrange lifting, launching and vessel works.
Managing day to day communications and works for the property side of the business and ensuring the compliance certification is kept up to date.
Assisting with advertising and updating social media outputs across the business.
Supporting management with project management tasks.
The Person:
We are looking for someone with experience of providing support at senior management level, trust is a key asset. You will need to be motivated and organised as well as practical, proactive and like taking ownership of tasks, time management skills are also essential. The right person will have previous bookkeeping experience and have ideally used Xero previously and be comfortable evolving with the role. The ability to stay calm under pressure and thrive in a fast paced environment would also be a great asset. If you have experience in the marine industry that would be a real bonus but is not essential.
Qualifications:
Excellent organisational ability and communication skills - verbal and written
High level of IT ability including Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher.
Bookkeeping experience and use of cloud based software such as Xero.
Experience of working on HR tasks would be a bonus.
