Job Description

The

Finance Manager

will be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations and controls, management accounting, and cash management.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, commercially astute individual with strong technical accounting skills (QUALIFICATIONS) and experience in managing the finance function for an SME. This role reports directly to the Head of Finance/CEO.

Key Responsibilities



Financial Reporting & Control



Manage all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Oversee the preparation and presentation of monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) for the leadership team, providing insightful commentary and analysis. Assist the external auditors with the preparation of the annual statutory accounts. Ensure full compliance with all relevant financial, tax, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HMRC, Companies House). Develop and maintain robust

internal financial controls

and procedures to safeguard company assets.

Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis



Assist with the annual

budgeting

process and periodic re-forecasting. Monitor performance against budget, analysing variances and proposing corrective actions. Provide financial modelling and analysis as required to support strategic decision-making, capital expenditure proposals, and potential projects. Drive cost control and efficiency improvements across the business.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management



Proactively manage and report on cash flow, ensuring the company maintains adequate liquidity for operations. Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring efficient processing and effective credit control. Manage bank relationships and ensure optimal use of working capital facilities.

Team Management & Leadership (If Applicable)



Supervise and mentor any junior finance staff (e.g., Accounts Assistant/Bookkeeper). Foster a culture of accuracy, compliance, and commercial awareness within the finance function.

Qualifications and Experience



Professional Qualification:

Fully qualified accountant (e.g.,

ACCA, CIMA, ACA

) or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Minimum of

3-5 years

post-qualification experience, preferably gained in an SME environment or managing a full finance function.

Turnover Exposure:

Proven experience managing the finances for a business with a similar scale (e.g., 5m - 20m turnover).

Technical Skills:

Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and

Microsoft Excel

is essential.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
