About what you'll be doing and what we're about
You'll join a progressive and expanding firm of Chartered Accountants based in Torquay, providing both traditional and advisory services in a key role that supports our customers.
You'll be based in a spacious, light and modern office, two minutes walk from the centre of sunny Torquay with shops and a wide choice of places to get lunch or go shopping. Just a fifteen-minute walk to the harbour and beaches, near all the attractions you'd expect from the English Riviera, including parks, crazy golf, the pier, and a beachside promenade (ideal for a mindful walk at lunchtime) again with lots of bars and restaurants.
There's a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, microwave, etc.), and free coffee is available all day. If you need a boost, you can help yourself to healthy snacks and fruit as well.
We get on great as a team, sharing cakes on birthdays and special occasions. It's also brilliant to do things together. We regularly make the most of what you can do in South Devon, like bowling, Segway, crazy golf, archery, and kayaking down the river Dart with a campfire, hot chocolate and marshmallows. Of course, if you don't want to get involved in these activities, you don't have to, but they are great fun.
But don't take our word for it; here's what Millie thinks:
"I've been at Andrew Price & Co now for nearly 8 years. I started as an apprentice and I'm now a qualified accounting technician. The main work that I started with, and still involved with, is bookkeeping and doing vat returns for our customers and the work connected to that, like training customers on Xero, but I also prepare management accounts and year end accounts for companies. I love the work I do as I get to work closely with my customers and find out what's going on in their businesses. At APCO there's a relaxed and supportive environment lots of opportunities to progress."
Team communication is essential, and everyone is kept informed about what's happening. As a team, we share news and discuss what's happening as a group.
All our systems are cloud-based, and utilising great software like Xero, TaxCalc, Dext, Apron, Client Engager, and Cloud2Me means we have the best tools for you to use in helping our customers.
There isn't any boring, menial manual processing of transactions. There are also online tax libraries and technical reference material, so you always have the resources to help customers. And we're always looking for the best software and systems to make us more effective.
The customers you work with make a big difference in how you feel about your workplace. All our customers are great to work with. We work with a smaller number of business owners as our customers expect us to have the time to provide a great service. Just crunching numbers and being an 'accounts factory' is not what we do.
Our typical customer will have a range of services from us, including Bookkeeping, Tax Planning, Forecasting, Management Accounts, and Monthly Performance Analysis, as well as standard accounts and tax services. There's an emphasis on proactive tax and business advisory services backed up by solid, accurate bookkeeping, accounts preparation and tax compliance. However, don't worry; you'll receive comprehensive training on everything you'll be doing.
Most of our customers are medium-sized business owners with an ambition to grow and increase profitability, which gives us the scope to provide a high-quality, personalised service. We have many stories of the positive impact the team's contributions have made to customers, and all the team members contribute.
Helping customers reach their goals, such as building the dream home they've always wanted or overcoming obstacles, gives a great feeling. Have a look at the case studies on our website to see how our customers have benefited.
