Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for Scotland's museums and galleries. We support a sector of 455 museums and galleries, through strategic investment, workforce development, advice and advocacy. The Museum Accreditation Scheme is the UK industry standard for museums and galleries, managed through a partnership of assessing organisations across the UK. Delivery of the Accreditation Scheme in Scotland is a core part of Museums Galleries Scotland work and underpins the National Strategy priorities.

We are recruiting for an Accreditation Officer to assist in supporting sector development by encouraging museums to participate in the Accreditation Scheme, providing advice, and undertaking assessments. Having excellent reading and numeracy skills with the ability to analyse and evaluate large volumes of information will therefore be essential in this role.

The Accreditation Officer is both proactive and reactive, communicating widely with the sector to support the achievement of the standards and facilitating strong, positive relationships with museums. You will bring experience of delivering excellent customer service and knowledge of the museum and gallery sector in Scotland to achieve this.

You will contribute to the development of the systems for processing assessments and to the organisation's knowledge management systems so experience of maintaining and developing processes will be vital.

Overview of Responsibilities



Support delivery of the Accreditation Scheme including managing individual assessments, liaising with applicants, consulting with colleagues and preparing recommendation reports Provide guidance and support to the sector on matters relating to the Accreditation Scheme, including visits to museums and surgeries for applicants when appropriate Carry out assessment of Accreditation applications and returns, and support the full assessment process including eligibility checks, collating assessment reports and supporting the Museum Development Manager: Accreditation Contribute to the development of the systems for processing assessments Contribute to the organisation's knowledge management systems, including monitoring of success and collecting data associated with Accreditation Communicate effectively with museums to ensure Accreditation is a supportive and constructive process Maintain the Accreditation webpages, updating content regularly Support the admin processes for Accreditation Work with the rest of UK Accreditation Partnership (Arts Council England, Welsh Government, and Northern Ireland Museums Council) to ensure consistency across the nations
The above mentioned tasks and responsibilities constitute an overview and not an exhaustive list. Workload and priorities is ultimately determined by the MGS Business Plan and the Capacity Programme plan.

Skills and Experience

Essential



Knowledge of the museum and gallery sector in Scotland Excellent reading and numeracy skills with the ability to analyse and evaluate large volumes of information, including written and financial information Ability to work quickly and accurately to strict deadlines Strong organisation skills with keen attention to detail Strong written skills, applied particularly in report formats Maintaining and developing processes Delivering excellent customer service Experience working with databases and confident using a range of digital platforms and software

Experience of quality assurance schemes Interest in inclusive practice and addressing barriers Collections experience in one or more museums
